Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

From my interpretation of the Frankenso schematic, pin 36 connects to PD7 on the brain board, whereas PB0 doesn't go to any of the pins on the connector. I put a snip of the schematic I'm referencing. Am I seeing this right?

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

Question about AC. I recently updated to the most recent bundle for Frankenso in my NB miata, and wanted to try out the AC functionality. I've connected my AC relay to a low side driver and am able to actuate the relay successfully with the bench test button, but am struggling with the AC switch inp...

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

I guess that goes to show my lack of understanding of the board :?
My brain works better with mechanical things :)
I'll try not confusing matters more.
I can say that I'm confident in the circuit for the solenoid.
One wire to 12v, the other to w37.

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

By the way, my knowledge of all the functions of the discovery board is very limited. I've only made it as far as I have by trial and error and using subtle clues in schematic drawings.

So there are more than 12 low side drivers?

Is there a slack chat started on this topic?
I'd be happy to join.

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

I would have to hook up a scope to see the duty cycle.
Probably worth doing.

Is there a different pin I can use, or does it need an injector driver?
I'm all out of injector drivers, so that's why I ask.
Maybe there's a short somewhere causing the misbehavior?

I recorded a log with boost control debug, but unfortunately I can't attach it here. Can't attach .mgl file type apparently.
What variable would be the boost control duty cycle?
All the debug variables show a value of 0.

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

Got the boost solenoid installed. One wire is getting 12V, the other wire is routed to pin w37 for injector driver PE5. However, the solenoid starts cycling at the calibrated frequency (30hz) even when the boost control table is set to all zeros. It will continue to cycle even if I disable boost con...

My undersanding is the same. I believe the "EGR boost sensors" is ultimately a simple pressure sensor, that most likely limits out at 1 bar (atmosphere). It should be reading the manifold pressure like any other MAP sensor. It just isn't used as the primary load sensor with the stock contr...

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

Hook up a Boost valve (Cheap MAC Valve), and you can control boost from TS as well.. Then you can lower boost in critical rpms/areas and increase in others Question about Open loop boost control. The table is RPM vs MAP. Seems like it should be RPM vs TPS like the closed loop boost table. Is this c...

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

Here is my latest tune with 550CC injectors.
Far from finished, but seems to be pretty dialed in for fuel flow rate and injector dead time.
The VE table is pretty close since most cells of the target AFR table now match my actual AFR.

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

460cc injectors in, 7psi so far!
I found that my 3lb wastgate spring is too soft, so the exhaust pressure can force it open without the aid boost. Once I install a stiffer spring I'll crank it up some more.

Hopefully they'll be back soon, and I can see what sort of power this thing is really capable of 8-)

First drive with RusEFI!!! :D :D :D https://youtu.be/7uLaprwJyoo Drives really good! Boosting about 8psi, and I definitely found the limit of my stock injectors. Can't get much over 5000 rpm with that much boost before I max them out. The 460cc's are on the bench because one of them doesn't flow rig...

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

I played around with pullup resistors a bit to see how RPM limit responded and found that when I went from 10K to 20K, I was still limited to around 6000rpm. So I decided to just go big and see what happens, and I tried 100K resistors. The result: Able to rev all the way to 7000rpm hard limit :D Now...

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

It works! Sort of...

I flashed in the latest firmware, set both triggers to be non-inverted, and it started great!
Best cold start I've ever had.

On the other hand, I'm still limited to a 5000rpm :(

Logs attached.

Also, idle seems to be fixed.

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

I updated the firmware and attached the trigger messages from cranking with non inverted triggers.

Note, I also experience idle control issues with this firmware.
I'm using manual control, and not getting any response when I change duty cycle.
Engine speed hangs out at around 450rpm, hardly running.

I'm glad you found something and I'm glad you're so willing to help me out.
So this will be fixed in the next firmware release?
Do you expect this to help with my rpm limit issues, or do I need to keep playing around with resistance?

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

https://rusefi.com/forum/download/file.php?id=5241 is when I switch to non inverted with the engine running, so that probably explains why it behaved normally.
I dont have a log, and wont be able to get one soon, but yes I get trigger errors.

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

I attached a non-inverted cranking event with trigger details enabled.
Note, I installed 10K resistors instead of the 5K I previously installed just to see what would happen, and the result is that I can go up to 5400 rpm.
Just another bit of data. This was with an inverted cam trigger.

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

Understood. I verified with a timing light and it runs the same with either 9 or 369 since it is wasted spark.
The only difference is when the fuel gets injected, which shouldn't affect the trigger issues.
How do you explain the odd behavior with non inverted cam trigger?

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

I attached a console log of trigger showing the behavior during cranking. It appears to me that it is acting as if there is 1440 degrees of engine rotation. In other words, it is only fueling and igniting every other 720 degree rotation. The little hiccup at the end of the recording is a momentary e...

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

The 5K pull up resistors were installed and I can now exceed 3000rpm, but get stuck at 5000rpm.
So it looks like I may need to try a slighty larger resistor?
Also, I still am unable to use a non-inverted cam trigger signal.

Re: 99 miata 1.8 turbo PnP setup #53

I experimented with this rpm limit, by dropping it to a value lower than 3000.
The result is a much cleaner rpm limit than the misfiring and popping that I get with the unintentional limit.
That made me confident that there isn't a config setting/tune value that's keeping me from going over 3000.

However, If I switch the cam signal to be also non-inverted, it won't start. It only fuels every other cycl...
