Re: Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE [microRusEFI]

We investigated a bit; the "3" gap coincides with a compression stroke of the engine and our battery was pretty small, which means the gap can be a lot bigger than it should (even with a second battery connected with jumper cables though). We swapped out the battery for a bigger and newer ...

Re: Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE [microRusEFI]

Hi. It's been a while, sorry that we didn't respond do you sooner. We've been a bit preoccupied since one of us managed to do a rollover with the Trike; thankfully noone got seriously hurt but it required a lot of repairs. The vehicle is now functional again, and we re-tested with the latest firmwar...

Re: Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE [microRusEFI]

Thanks! Works like a charm without batched injection and wasted spark now. We tried using vvt but couldn't make it work well yet. Is there a guide for how to set it up properly? While rebuilding parts of the vehicle we also noticed some small problems with cranking; when the load on the motor is too...

Re: Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE

Sorry that this took so long. This is the trigger shape, recorded with an oscilloscope: https://i.imgur.com/QNxp62q.png Ignore the weirdness of the cam shape and its voltage offset, that's because of our VR->Hall converter board and the measurement settings. And here's a sketch of the actual shape: ...

Re: Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE

Here you go:

It's not that visible as we didn't take the cam shaft out of the motor; we couldn't find fitting images on the internet either. It has 4 sides, 3 with a trigger and one without.

Re: Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE

Unfortunately we had only very little time on our hands lately. I uploaded a tune now though (https://rusefi.com/online/view.php?msq=670) and while it's not tuned well yet, it at least achieves lambda of around 1 under 3000rpm.

Re: Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE

(Sorry for not answering for so long, we thought notifications were on... they were not) We can drive now without big issues. The motor could still use some more tuning but we finally got everything set up for that so it's hopefully not gonna take long. I hope the video works this time: https://imgu...

Re: Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE

Not a ECU question - are you planning/considering less M+S tires?
Currently we're just using old tires we had lying around, the front ones are M+S, the rear one is a summer tire.

In the meantime we've had some success though :D

Re: Sporttrike

It looks like a new VVT mode is needed. What shall we call this VVT shape? 4/1? Toyota something? https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/issues/1847 (rusEFI action item #2) To keep it in line with how the crank pattern is named 3/1 would probably be best. We also need to implement https://github.com/ruse...

Re: Sporttrike

The connector itself is fine and almost all the pins are in and connected to the cable harness. We only want to know which ones to order, cause we're not entirely sure which variant of the pins to crimp are fitting. On a different note though, we do have the most important stuff connected and our VR...

Re: Sporttrike

We got another question: We want to route the USB cable out the main connector so that we can leave the case closed. According the pinout https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/wiki/Hardware_microRusEfi_wiring we can connect the 5v lane of the USB cable to pin 19. Now that USB connection doesn't work and ...

Re: Sporttrike

Thanks for the quick feedback. So what I have now gathered from your responses is: We absolutely need a wideband O2 sensor for tuning, and there is absolutely no way to use the narrowband sensor, we already have, right? Also our headers are simply too short for O2 sensors at all, which makes total s...

Re: Sporttrike

Soo... the kit is on the way, and we'll try to make the VR->Hall thing work. There is another thing we would like to try, and that is not using a normal exhaust - instead we'd like to pass the exhaust gases through short pipes out the side. For that we will need to use 4 separate (cheap, we don't re...

At cranking speeds (iirc around 200rpm) the time between two pulses is about 160ms.

Re: Sporttrike

50 years ago they put people on the Moon and returned them alive. You can totally translate VR into Hall with enough motivation. :D What I mean more specifically is if the software uses some metric like the length of the pulses. Of the only thing that matters is the timing of the signals then I'm p...

Re: Sporttrike

If you have the transfer function (voltage vs. flow) for your MAF, it should work ok We luckily do :) It probably needs more than is offered by a plastic enclosure. I wouldn't recommend using a 3d printed plastic enclosure. The aluminum enclosure we include does a pretty good job of heatsinking, as...

Sporttrike 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE [microRusEFI]

Hello there! We're a team of 3 (two studying mechanical engineering, one electric engineering) that is building a reverse-Trike with a 1.8l Toyota 1ZZ-FE engine taken out of a Toyota Avensis. The Trike is built for racing and accelerating fast, thus the name. We have suspension that is adjustable vi...
