Re: 2003 Dodge Neon

different tone wheel than mine, but shared with the SRT and other 03+ chryslers this diagram may or maynot be offset by 40 degrees but it should be easy to verify with the actual car.

Re: Self-diagnostics todo/dreams

Of all the ideas talked about here the one for noise filtering or monitoring on the crank signal is the most valuable to me. I am yet to install an aftermarket ECU that I didn't have to chase signal noise on and inevitably there is no convenient way to monitor it. Its start the motor, run a log, ope...

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

Neons are speed density, a holdover from the 80's when everything in chrysler's lineup came with a turbo. Suggest we focus on tps and temperature inputs.

Feel free to copy and promote as you see fit.

I'm going to be tied up with work for the next 2 days but Thursday night I should be able to work on some other inputs to this machine.

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

So this is when one of you guys are supposed to say quit screwing the pooch and just start the damn thing... Maybe work on the tunerstudio stuff a bit tomorrow... I think next step will be getting the TPS and MAP inputs so I can transfer this on to a vehicle.

I thought of that- unplugging the ignitor and second coil feed had no effect. I have not put fuel to it tonight... but just for you I'll grab another log with an without fuel

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

tougher to see in the video than in person, maybe these will help- Ignition mode 1 seemed to slow the strobe but not change what I am seeing.

I'm seeing timing flash in these positions (approximately):

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

I entirely agree we are requesting ignition consistently, but that's not what we are getting. Hopefully this video helps. You will note the strobe shows the timing mark directly below the motor mount bolt, close to where it should be, and also illuminates the damper opposite the timing mark. The tim...

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

not sure what the wierdness was but a check of my connections and a reset of the timing light and I am picking up spark... actually lots of spark events unfortunately they still don't appear to all be at the same crankshaft timing. I'll try and shoot video and see if it works out.

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

ok here is a log with new firmware and injection disabled. Interestingly my attempt to determine where the ignition timing was at now that we are running new firmware and the coils have been returned to normal failed. The timing light is not picking up ignition events on either coil... I am investig...

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

I've just changed the firmware that it would start printing ignitionOffset with 'showconfig', do you remember your setting? Did you change it? Can you please attach more logs? I still need your current logs, but I would also ask you to take another log with the latest version: 1) update firmware 2)...

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

I have convinced myself we are getting multiple or incorrectly timed ignition events based on what I am seeing in my timing light. Also if we only had 1 ignition event I wouldn't get backfires until I was off by more than 50 degrees or so. Is there any way we can log the high energy coil side of the...

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

its still quite rich, I'm going to lean it out and get some fresh plugs while my battery charges. Can you confirm from the log if it is leaving cranking mode or if I need to bump down the cranking RPM?

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

yep it really happened... I grabbed my bosterpack dialed the fuel back and it stumbled to life. I can get it to start but it just plods along then dies probably a little timing and some work on the afterstart fueling will make it run proper. Got a quick command to change the afterstart fuel without ...

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

Not sure what I'm battling at this point... I'm getting a good cough followed by a backfire. Unfortunately I've run down the battery so I'll play again in the morning. I think the plan is fresh plugs to get a good read on the fuel situation (I think we are VERY rich cranking) followed by a timing sw...

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

Looks like we got the ignition sorted... also of note is that moving the global trigger by 10 actually moves the timing by 20 crank degrees. All my work to swap coils and change it by 100 or so actually meant a real change of only 20 degrees (+200 -180 net 20)

Re: 1995 Dodge Neon

So there was stumbling, coughing and a backfire of epic proportions which launched the throttle body clean off the intake... Timing needs work, and I think we are way lean after start. I got it to pickup a couple times playing with the timing but it seemed to starve out immediately. Other observatio...

2nd log- same setup with crank charging angle changed to 35 degrees. This moved the timing events but did not change the spread between them.
