Short answer is "it varies"
Older stuff is purely mechanical, newer stuff has computer pressure control and injector firing.
Most new injectors are high-ish voltage piezo, and are fired multiple times per injection cycle.

Re: Hellen Ford Taurus SHO
In my head, the way to do this is to make an ELM327 Hellen module, and let it do the heavy lifting. Interfacing with the ELM327's AT firmware should be easier than implementing n weird serial protocols.

Re: Transmission Control logic
I need some ideas for generalizing the configuration interface for transmission control solenoids. Currently I'm looking at the GM 4LXX series - 4L60E, 4L65E, 4L70E, 4L80E, 4L85E. Control on these transmissions has a lot in common, but also quite a few differences. Currently I'm focusing on the 4L60...

Re: Transmission Control logic
There are still a few things I don't know about how the TCC is controlled. The service manual states, regarding the 4-3 downshift: The PCM de-energizes the TCC solenoid valve, and operates the duty cycle of the TCC PWM solenoid valve to release the converter clutch for a smooth disengagement, prior ...

I'm putting some time into developing this again, under pressure from nmstec . Right now I'm trying to understand the control strategy for the TCC. I've asked blundar for some screenshots of OE tunes, hopefully that will provide some insight. nmstec posted a screenshot in Slack of a few tables from ...

Current status of the new engine is that the block is painted and the crankshaft is installed. I haven't been working on it much because some other stuff has taken priority. I agreed to swap the transmission in my parent's car with a junkyard pull. I drained the fluid from the junkyard pull and it l...

@turbotrana OK I've got the PCB updated, this link should get you the right file. https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/raw/master/hardware/Breakout_104pin_EEC-V-Connector/export/eecv_gerbers_0.3.zip Upload that to JLC and it should automatically select 4-layer and the proper board size. I think the only...

I've used Dirtypcbs quite a bit, but I found that this board was big enough that it was cheaper from JLC. At least when I did it; pricing may have changed.

Re: Ford EEC-V 104 Pin Connector
@turbotrana I'll send you one if you pay for the shipping. Not sure how much that would be. If China->AU shipping is comparable to China->US shipping, it might be cheaper for you to get some made. 5 PCBs cost me $44.50 shipped. There have been two versions. The first version I had made is a 2-layer ...

Hook up your air compressor to the spark plug hole and listen for the hissing. That will tell you if it's the exhaust valve, intake valve, rings, or head gasket. If it's the rings, there's all kinds of potions people put in their cylinders to try to free up the rings. Sometimes they even work.

Re: 1997 Ford F-150 5.4 E4OD
I changed my mind about giving up, and decided to try again. New gate driver, new MOSFET. And I found a problem: I had the diode wired to ground instead of 12V. I don't think that would kill the gate driver, but I decided to give it another try anyway. It worked perfectly - for maybe a minute. Then ...

Re: 1997 Ford F-150 5.4 E4OD
Well it didn't work. I added a 100 ohm resistor to the gate, and replaced the 1n4001 with a SB5200. It failed in the same manner as the first one. The gate driver outputs about 4.5V, no matter the state of the input. Theories: 1: My MOSFET is somehow broken. I tested it on the ATX power supply I use...

Re: 1997 Ford F-150 5.4 E4OD
Thank you both for the lessons in electronics! I ordered some more drivers from Digikey. When those arrive I'll replace the one that's toast, add an 100ohm resistor, and replace the 1N2001 diode with a SB5200. That diode should work, no? It's what I happen to have. It's rated at 5A average, 20A repe...

Re: 1997 Ford F-150 5.4 E4OD
The yellow trace is set to zero offset, so GND should be the middle division. So it looks like the noise is indeed going through ground, but centered maybe 0.5v above it. Taking that into account, the max voltage must be about 5v.

Re: 1997 Ford F-150 5.4 E4OD
So I'm taking a step back and forgetting about current mode control for now. One of the things I learned from trying to figure out how to do it was that I need a gate driver for the MOSFET. So I built this circuit. driver.png At first I did not connect the two outputs of the driver, and this was the...
