Re: hip9011 integration
How far did you get with the knock sensor chip? I see that you have it outputting an analog voltage, but it looks like you are stuck trying to find out how to set the RPM against Knock threshold curve, to check it is working? I found some interesting resources that might be of help, as this is some...

Re: hip9011 integration
They seem to incrementally advance timing until slight knock then back down as soon as knock has been detected. From my understanding, this is ideal only when an engine is octane limited. Meaning that the ideal ignition advance happens after the engine starts knocking. If the engine is not operatin...

Re: hip9011 integration
TI recently updated the TPIC8101 datasheet. One of the lines that is interesting states: "For a flat-type knock sensor, the bandpass filter design equation can be used to determine where the center frequency should be set." Following that, they give the standard DSP biquad filter equation....

Re: Ion Sense
From the ohms meter, I find this coil is just 2 coils, it did not appear to have the diodes, but it would have the coils in such a way that you can obtain the ion signal. Generally two terminals are for the logic level triggering circuit and the other two are the connections for the transformer sec...

Re: hip9011 integration
The only datasheet I could find for a resonant knock sensor is this: http://www.thirdgen.org/forums/attachments/diy-prom/143570d1188275299-knock-sensor-location-early-et_broadband.pdf The datasheet indicates that the sensor outputs 550-1050 mv/g into a 2k ohm load. Delphi provides some information o...

Re: hip9011 integration
As I suspected, this sensor's voltage output is one or two orders of magnitude larger than the sensors in the application examples TI provided. The attenuator seems to have resolved the issue. However, I do I need to do a little more fine tuning. Here's the most recent log. This is with the digital ...

Re: hip9011 integration
You may also have too much gain from the sensor, have you tried to induce knock? if so then how far above the noise floor is the knock signal. Your sensor is likely to have a different internal resistance and capacitance so you could try tweaking the input stage to try and optimise the impedance ma...

What window are you using? I am using 40-130 degrees ATDC. How is the knock sensor mounted? it is very important that the mounting surfaces are flat and the sensor is correctly torqued. It is mounted to block via factory knock sensor boss (just below the cylinder head between cylinders 2 and 3). It...

Re: hip9011 integration
Wide open throttle pulls on the road and free revving the engine results in the integrator output increasing with the rpm. I'm about 90% confident that the engine is not knocking. I believe that's expected behavior - engine noise increases with increase in RPM so you need your knock detection thres...

Re: hip9011 integration
Perhaps you should try to create an audible knock (you can hear it with your own ears) and then take a look at the TPIC output. I am doing some on car testing myself today. My hardware and algorithms are a little bit different, but the data should still be relevant. I'll report back when I have more...

Re: high-side power switch
That is my fault for not mentioning what IC to use. VN750PS-E seemed to be most appropriate the task. There are several other high side drivers, both lower and higher current ratings, in the 8-SO package. The thermal vias are indeed supposed to be offset. The VN750PS-E does not have a thermal pad on...

Re: hip9011 - 3v to 5v level issues
I finally found some spare time to come back to this. If we consider the MOSI circuit to be purely an RC circuit, your MOSI line had just under 70 picoFarads of capacitance. That sounds very high. Was your probe in 10x mode? Was your logic analyzer or any other device connected to the MOSI line?

GPIO expansion board
Also, if you want to get really crazy, I can make a GPIO expansion board. For example, use three digital outputs from the STM32 to control 8, 16, or more outputs. The downside is changing the state of one of the outputs would take 10-100 microseconds longer depending on the communication protocol an...

Is C169 really necessary ? (I just looked at SECU4 and there is no such workarround for startup.) OSCIN with C169 (470p??) has low impedance to "ground" (CS is tighted to log. 0 or log. 1 which is almost ground for oscilator, is not it ?) If you have troubles with startup of oscillator, s...

I designed R177 per Figure 15. Negative Resistance Measuring Circuit on this PDF page 11. Take note it specifies you increase the Rq until you hit the max.
