Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

The story so far.... (The purpose of this is to pull together everything that happened in 7 pages into one single post) 1994 Japanese Eunos 1.8 imported into the UK. Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

Bad news I'm afraid. ECU connected, ignition on. Ran fuel pump test 3 times, no noise, nothing on meter. Then there was an ascending high pitch whine/whistle followed by a blank display on the Frankenso. This time only micro usb connected so laptop stayed up. Pulled plugs, disconnected battery. Rein...

Is it worth me metering out 2T to GND to see what it does while issuing the pump test? Or do you have a better idea?

Progress! The pump and relay fired straight into life. Looks like one issue is about to be solved.

Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

Is there a way to operate the fuel pump test with less run time? The reason I ask is I'm thinking of sticking a bottle in the engine bay and running the test. Obviously 3secs may well fill a bottle unless I pipe it out to a large Gerry can. I was hoping there was a de-pressurise valve on the injecto...

Re: 1994 USDM Mazda Miata #11

Humming noise while the car runs, drives me bonkers. Maybe the PWM frequency on the ICV is not high enough and the solenoid jiggles? Funny thing, it doesn't hum nearly as loud when the engine is not running but in the ON position. Is it the same one I had? http://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&...

Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

I've not got as far as bridging any wires yet! I will but I'm still double checking the basics before I commit another discovery suicide. The wiring for my car with BPF3 ECU is similar to that shown http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Vehicle:Mazda_Miata_1994 however there are 3 differences, high...

Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

Firstly, Idle solenoid fix worked fine. No more buzzing. Test results... 1. Fuel Pump - Still nothing. Even with the wife in the boot, yes she was alive before anyone starts thinking I'm a hitman :D 2. Injector Test - All good, I can hear them clicking and also feel the relevant injector clicking. I...

Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

It's been a busy old day! Fuel pump test - nothing, no sound. Injector test - I think I can hear the clicking, so happy with that one. Spark test - Not yet done Fan test - Nothing, no fan. The reason I didn't spark test was a noise heard whilst listening for the injectors. https://www.youtube.com/wa...

Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

Ah, nearly forgot about the 3rd pin, glad I updated now before getting carried away. To make the testing easier I am going to try and rig up another WAP at the back of my house so I can get internet access out there. This will give me more room to work and more importantly, should be quieter than la...

Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

Thanks for the suggestion, I will ground myself before working with the board. Although I was no where near the board at the time of failure, it had been connected to the car for at least 3 minutes (probably more like 5-10) with the ignition on whilst I was talking to Audrey. The last actions I perf...

D3 is measuring 10 ohms is both directions.

Re: 1994 MX5/Miata/Eunos 1.8 NA (Japanese Import)

Boards ordered. The Frankenso board has a short between the 5v and the VDD line (taking both points from the header). The Discovery board has a short between 5v, VDD, 3v and GND. (Which is hardly surprising given the voltage reg is black.) Obviously it's not worth connect the new Discovery boards up...

The display now reads "unrealistic CLT -285". I presume this is coolant temp?

Right time for an update...... ECU swapped. Powers up and looks well. Feeling brave I turn the key  Enough drama, it's cranking but not firing. On the plus side, I suspect I know the issue. I've not heard the fuel pump priming and I have this 'thing' in my mind about the US and JDM fuel pump wi...

Just wanted to say hi. I'm Dave and I'm completely new to playing with ECUs, it's something I've wanted to do for a while - well rusEFI has given me that chance. I should have everything I need ordered, I'm just excitedly waiting for deliveries and the time to play. I'll apologise in advance for the...
