Re: Power supply - kb1gtt

I thought your reply was well constructed and I was starting to type up a decent response until you asked me to access a freely available set documents which I for one have never used, I have used journals discussing similar European standards but have ever really found the time to sit down and read...

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt

As an electrical engineer working specifically with engine control modules and automotive electronic products I hoped to give a little help here, luckily the project appears to already have a specialist. For your information, radiated emission is by far the hardest part of EMC testing to pass, you a...

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt

Also, bench testing of power supplies at home is certainly achievable however you will need some test gear to do so, a USB scope will miss most transients :( If you haven't already I would highly recommend picking up an old tek 456b on ebay... you can get these for next to nothing and they are more ...

Is this not a little OTT? I've joined up a little late to make comments I know... but a PD combined with an emitted follower if you really want a buffer is simple too and pretty cheap. You may well want the high impedance input that an opamp allows, but remember common mode noise loves having on inp...

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt

Jared? Yes heat is largely irrelevant, if the majority of your outputs are low side switched you will find your normal current will be less than 1A, probably less than 300mA. There are a number of Linear regulators including low drop out regulators which cost $2 or less and are already rated for loa...

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt

I totally respect your attitude toward trying new things but can some one please explain to me the logic behind using the switch mode power supply? I would like to know the rational before I make any harsh comment.

Heat and inefficient operation is a totally irrelevant for an ecu imo.
