Re: VR + knock module

I recall Honeywell has a good paper which details a bunch of math for VR. I also recall we have a copy on the wiki. That paper might help you. I once made a spreadsheet with that math in it. However that may have not been migrated when the wiki migrated to GitHub. See notes in this thread https://ru...

As I show here, it works on emulating, but i not test it i real.
Without posted source files it's difficult to comment on the emulation accuracy.

Selection of components is critical for understanding if a schematic will work. The opamp selection is critical.

I've pondered the prospects of an RTV mold used with technomelt potting compound. Basically make custom potting cup, put technomelt in cup with PCB, then put in toaster oven. After heat cycle you've got fully potted board.

Re: 1999 Dodge Dakota

I'm trying to draft a fuel tune. Currently VE is 60% across the board. Any suggestions on how to guess better VE values? It doesn't have a WO2 yet. I've got a 14point7 WO2 with sensor kicking around. I guess if I ignore the humidity issues, I could just clamp it to the outlet and that would get me a...

1999 Dodge Dakota

This a thread for a 1999 Dodge Dakota, V6 3.9L 4X4 with a history where several mechanics have failed to get it running. Frame and mechanicals are in decent condition, but ECU does not turn on fuel pump relay. It can run on starter fluid. This is in early days of OBD stuff. I've not found a reliable...

Re: Digital CDI for large engines

Scope traces? It's hard to guess when we have little data. If you scope it out, then make sure you using 10X scale or make sure you have a probe capable of 400+V. Often a 10X probe can handle around 400V. So beware and keep an eye on the voltage capability if you try to use a scope. I might guess yo...

Re: Digital CDI for large engines

The cap and transformer are going to prevent some level of energy from converting into spark energy. Keep in mind the stored energy is a max available energy.

Hmmm. That pic circuit look very similar to the direct injection driver boost circuit.

Re: CDI

On small engines I think spark duration and energy are mostly fixed. Components are selected and the trigger signal is also fixed. However I understand that you can get a certain level of control. With CDI you basically charge a cap, then you quickly discharge the cap through a step up transformer. ...

Re: 2014 red kia rio 1.6 GDI M/T busted dreams

You can change the scale on the scope to avoid the need to calc this in your head. It can read on screen directly in amps. Also it's measuring magnetic flux. Verify that it reads 0 when the probe is in the same area, but without a wire in the loop. AKA a near by motor or similar magnetic field can i...

Re: Discrete components VR decoder with zero firmware code

The drafted schematic has many issues. I'd also like if the diodes clamped to gnd instead of the +5 rail. In other similar circuits, I've seen that clamped energy self power the 5v and override the ability to shut off the 5v. So I typically either avoid that style of clamp or I add something like a ...

Re: Discrete components VR decoder with zero firmware code

Jared says Still in early stages of noodling this over, but this might mostly work. I basically just split off the op-amps to have a virtual ground. I think this would likely allow for a 1 wire VR, connect VR+ to GND, then VR- would be the other VR wire. Granted in 1 wire mode, it would have a lowe...

Re: S105 OEM ECU

0.3 ohm sense resistance @ 1 amp = 0.3 watts. Plus your normal switching loses from the transistor. I'd expect it needs good heat sinking, or good injector design. AKA injector would want to be large enough to keep the WOT duty low and lower ECU dissipated watts, but the injector would want to be sm...
