Re: Q&A on source code

I downloaded the code and have started to take a look around. I notice some of it does not match the first post description above (that was written back in 2013). Most notably the current code is C++ versus C. I also notice that some of the key methods/classes described in the first post dont exist ...

Re: Thinking of Microsquirt over RusEFI

I could do on or offboard ignitors - onboard is simpler though. I would also use CLT. A nice to have would be O2 with heater driver, or at least O2 input. For 2 stroke this would only be for tuning, for 4 strokes it would be a permanent addition. A big feature for motorcycle would be onboard logging...

Trigger Wheel Teeth

I am taking my flywheel to the machinist tomorrow and just want to understand if there are any restrictions on the number of teeth and skip teeth with RusEFI? This is for a single cylinder 2 stroke engine. Since it will be manual machining, the machinist may be restricted by his equipment. so probab...

Re: Thinking of Microsquirt over RusEFI

he he - that looks interesting. Perhaps my second project I will take a harder look at it. The ability to adjust the size of the VE table is an important thing. This is a technical bike so fine throttle control is very important. Commercial EFI systems for these bikes have 24x32 tables. The first 10...

Re: Thinking of Microsquirt over RusEFI

Thanks for all the info - it helps. One big negative about uSquirt: it only has a 12x12 VE table - which is a major drawback for a technical dirt bike (especially if I am running Alpha-N). 16x16 is better. 24x24 would be very good and competitive with aftermarket units. Money is not a big deal, alth...

Thinking of Microsquirt over RusEFI

Just wanted to get some (hopefully) objective thoughts on why I am wanting to choose Microsquirt over RusEFI. A bit of background I am doing a 2 stroke dirt bike conversion. 1 cylinder lightweight bike. The reasons why I am wanting to do microsquirt are: #1 there are more people on the msextra forum...

Re: Injector size for 2 stroke dirt bike

Thanks for the info. I will go with 130g/min and then if need be, I will get a bigger one. In this size of system, the fuel pressure systems are pretty simple, so no adjustment for manifold pressure. And with 2 strokes manifold pressure is an erratic thing anyways.

Re: Injector size for 2 stroke dirt bike

Thanks for the detailed info. No access to Dyno, so I will have to guesstimate. Contrary to popular usage, I am not after peak HP, I am more interested in low end power and smooth delivery. So I am not worried too much about top end. With the variety of calculators I keep getting aroun 130-140 cc/mi...

Yep - all good with power.

Back to the original question: What about the injector sizing? Anyone have any experience there?

Injector size for 2 stroke dirt bike

I am starting to source parts for my 250cc single cylinder EFI dirt bike project. Single cylinder 250cc I am expecting a HP at the rear wheel about 20HP Max RPM is 8500 Max duty cycle - 90% (??) Naturally aspirated Fuel pressure from 43-50PSI I have come across a couple of calculators that use max H...

TPS for a carb?? Wha??

OK, this is a bit off topic for the board, but I thought I would try and see if you guys have some idea. A group of us tuners are trying to fix a carb issue with a 2 stroke where we are having a real problem with the off idle-1/8 throttle. So I am going to hook up a data logger with an O2 sensor (ma...

Re: idle & TPS question - another ECU

Handing idle is not like what you read of the internet. It happens not only at idle but when the bike is running and engaged. You have to experience it to understand. So lets skip the hanging idle thing and I will rephrase my question: is it common for ECUs have a separate idle fuel map that is outs...

Re: idle & TPS question - another ECU

Hanging idle is a very common occurrence on bikes with carbs that are lean in the pilot, or needle circuits. It is a trick we use often for tuning carbs on bikes. The o2 sensors are only used for tuning, then removed. Their life on a two stroke is not long enough for permanent mount. Check out the s...

Re: idle & TPS question - another ECU

"Hang" or "hanging idle" is a common term with bikes and sleds. I guess not here. It means when letting off the throttle the revs do not come down to idle or come down slowly. The O2 sensors we use (with adapters) work extremely well for two stroke tuning. Placement is key within...

idle & TPS question - another ECU

So a couple of buddies and I have aftermarket ECUs on our dirt race race bikes. They are 2 stroke EFI. They are from a company called GET. So here is the funny thing. The TPS the actual raw values are like 450 (throttle closed) to 3500 (throttle open). So when we calibrate the ECU to the "actua...

Re: Another Canuck

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I notice two camps about using O2 sensor on two strokes for tuning. Once camp is: "no - it wrecks the sensor and the results are no good anyways because of the oil" - the other camp says "no problem with the right sensor for short term tuning use. Mu...

Re: Another Canuck

Hi gang, I was planning to do a casual EFI project using an older Honda 4 stroke, but plans have changed. I own a 2018 KTM 250 transfer port injection EFI bike, and I want to heavily modify it for technical riding. This is a 2 stroke bike. There are no mapping and tuning hacks for the current Synerj...
