Re: Miata NA 1996, 1.8L stock (#7)
I got a set of resistors that will handle about 4 watts at 34 ohms and put that in series with the idle control. Here is the picture a shot of the scope with that: IMG_20141014_180720.jpg Edit: Settings are the same as the earlier post, 10x probe, 10v per div, 0 is at the 2nd line from bottom, 2ms p...

Re: Miata NA 1996, 1.8L stock (#7)
I dug through my junk box and found a few power resistors I could combine to get close. I have to go out of town but will try it in a few days.

Re: Miata NA 1996, 1.8L stock (#7)
I didn't a chance to work on it yesterday, but here are measurements I did today. I don't have a way to measure inductance of the coil that I know of. IAC coil R=12.1 ohms Stock ECU IAC drive line shows: .6 v with IAC unplugged, keyswitch on, same with engine running about 2v with IAC plugged in, en...

Ok, here is shot of the IAC drive after putting a diode between the line & +12v. Clean lines at 0 and about 12v.

Re: Miata NA 1996, 1.8L stock (#7)
I put a 1N4002 across the IAC coil (to +12v), and now the pulses are clean. The loud buzz sound is gone, but now there is a new sound while cranking or while running, sounds more like a hum at about 150Hz. I guess it's coming from the IAC. If I adjust the pwm setting down to 200, that hum goes away....

Re: Miata NA 1996, 1.8L stock (#7)
I can try a diode across it. Like a 1N400x, say 100v or more?
I tried a few values for the pwm setting, like default or lower, but didn't seem to be closer to stay up at idle. I'll try again after knocking down that spike.

Re: Miata NA 1996, 1.8L stock (#7)
I'm trying to get it to idle now. And I'm comparing the stock ECU IAC line to what the Frankenstein does. Looking at it on an oscilloscope at idle while running on the stock ecu I see pulses about 12v at the peak, about 4ms wide, about 4v p-p, offset by 8v from ground. When I hook up the Frankenstei...

Re: Miata NA 1996, 1.8L stock (#7)
After a few rounds of trial and error and speculation, I got a good tip from here: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?p=7158314#post7158314 And isolated the problem to the clutch, disabled the clutch safety interlock and I can start without scaring the neighborhood. Now I can get a decent star...

Development on Ubuntu
Here are my sketchy notes on what I did to set up build, debugger and flash tools on Ubuntu. If anyone wants to see more detailed steps, let me know: Starting from loading Ubuntu 14.04 64bit, aka Trusty for amd64. You need to install gcc build tools for ARM. Ubuntu has a standard package for gcc-arm...

Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock
Here is the inside of my ECU. It has seen some water damage at some point. There was a lot of rust on the outside brackets, looks like from A/C condensation leaking on to it.
And setup with oscilloscope.

Miata NA 1996, 1.8L stock (#7)
This is my other Miata that I've had for about 9 years. The body is in rough shape after getting caught in a bad hail storm, but it runs well. It's more of my project car that I can tinker on.
And a picture of the ECU for reference.

Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock
Thanks a lot. It had been repainted and some body work done, but I don't know much history on it. It was missing some important parts like power steering pump and A/C compressor (very important for Texas). I added those back and fixed oil leaks, and now it's running nicely. Thanks, Russian, I'll try...

Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21
Another Miata! Here is my 1990 Miata I mentioned in my intro. All stock except for a cone filter intake I added. I bought it in May and got it fixed up to be my daily driver. I'm anxious to do some tinkering on it after I get some hardware in my hands. Looking forward to trying out a Frankenso board...

Re: Hello
Both are running and both are stock, manual 5sp. 1990 is 1.6L, 1996 is 1.8L. Thanks for adding them to the list! This might spark some interest in the Miata crowd.
Yes I can do some testing on these guys.

Thanks, the Frankenso board looks good. I'll watch for news updates on it. Having a display and control buttons are nice, would be great to have a dash mounted remote display.

Hello
New guy here, just kicking the tires for now, but I've been reading a lot on the forums here. My background is embedded software, unix/linux, C development, some experience with micro-controllers, and interest in Miata's. I have two, a 1990 daily driver and a 1996 for a spare. I'm still debating on ...
