Re: cheap cylinder pressure sensor option - smart diesel glow plug with pressure sensor

Hmmm... I still don't understand the rational behind this doing. Has a Harley engine got two spark-plugs, so he can replace one? If he is doing cranking- (motored-)Test without combustion only, what is it good for to know TDC in motored operation? No, no, it was a setup thing not a while running th...

He didn't drill another hole, just put a sensor in the spark plug hole to test at cranking speed.
which I'm pretty sure gave him a number that is a few degrees before actual TDC...but as long as he's setting adjusting timing on the dyno it will all work out.

Would you please cure my curiosity, why there is no access to the crankshaft of a Harley-engine? Please excuse my stupid question. kr, sepp2gl Its not that there is not access, its that there is no access without pulling the side cover and fitting a degree wheel which is the standard approach but w...

I wrapped the exhaust so hopefully this fixes the heat in the engine bay issue. I'm going to try hosing it down with high temp paint to control the fibers and make it look a little better.

I'm sure the addition of the second plug adds power - I don't doubt that. I doubt whether staggering the firing does anything useful for power.
Yes, I was agreeing with you in a long winded way and suggesting a rewire to remove that feature and make it direct fire of both plugs together

Re: 190e with 5.0 M113

I bet the staggered firing is an emissions thing. I bet you will not be able to detect a power difference between simultaneous firing and staggered firing on a dyno. ...which means you can just wire both coils on each cylinder together, and run it as if it had 8 regular coils. Thanks - this would s...

Re: On v12 banks

There is no reason in the world to do that if you have 12 fuel and spark outputs in 1 ecu. That's not what I mean - I just mean having two map/maf/tps and doing independent per-bank fueling on a split-manifold engine. There are two interesting cases, N=1 and N>1, and once it's N>1, N=2 and N=4 are ...

Re: On v12 banks

We're actually very little code away from being able to run as "two ECUs", one for each bank. There is no reason in the world to do that if you have 12 fuel and spark outputs in 1 ecu. The OEMs did it for cost, it made no sense to develop an ecu for the small volume the V12s were....way e...

thank's. I agree with the first part. Beneficial will be to check individual cylinders for lean or miss fire conditions and to take some action. perhaps will be cheaper in terms of software and hardware compare to some fancy ION sense, right? EGT isn't a very good tuning tool, it varies for a lot o...

I guess 4 is plenty when you ONLY have 4 cylinders ;)

Seriously though, very nice. It is good to see another sole who believes every cylinder needs its own MAP sensor.

I would love to only need 4 :)

I feel bad for you having TUV so, I guess given the choice of TUV looking over my shoulder or 12 MAP sensors I'll take the 12 MAPs :)

ETB vs VVT: ETB on this engine are active just during starting and in error case. Normally, the ETBs are fully open and VVT controls the motor. In the event of an error, VVT is moved to a specific position and control is transferred to the ETBs. So that the motor can continue to run, albeit (perhap...
