Re: 1991 Miata #20 Hunchback

If you're taking the turbine and compressor assembly (CHRA) apart, do you have a way of getting it balanced after re-assembly?
I believe they're balanced together as an assembly, but not quite sure...

Raspberry Pi Zero

Because it was just $5 and because they are rationed out, I decided to order a Pi Zero. Now it arrived and I have no real project for it.
Does anybody have an idea how I can use it to help make a car go faster? Or better?

Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21

The TPS response not being perfectly linear doesn't make much of a difference in anything. Accel-enrichment based on TPS change is always fairly heavy-handed anyway. And the non-linearities could be tuned out with adjustments in the TPS/TPS table for enrichment. Noise is much more critical, so whate...

Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21

I ran the latest MSL through my database again and it looks like improvements over last time are marginal, if any. On the other hand, you're off by a max of 3% or so in the driving cells- that's probably better than stock! Your tune for the extreme cells can most likely still be improved, I notice y...

Re: VR board

I paid $4 on Oshpark for three boards and $21 at Digikey for the components (I only ordered two of the 9926 chips). So how about $25 shipped to you? Mind if I keep one of the boards and a few resistors/caps, so I can build my own if the need arises? I think the board could also be used to decode the...

What has me baffled is that the el_delta value for accel enrichment is often showing significant positive values, where there isn't much of anything going on. The only explan...

Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21

So how does it feel? I still notice a handful of times where you went pretty lean when enrichment should have taken care of it. And of course some occasions where it went too rich for a perfect world. But overall the log looks pretty solid. Your VE tune of all cruise cells seems to be near perfect. ...

Right - forgot about the automatic! Just looked at a random log from your last post: Your TPS signal looks great, but MAP is pretty poor. Also Vbatt and CLT are not that great. IAT and TPS I'd say are the best looking signals in that log, followed by AFR. <threadjack> Two things I noticed, even thou...

Sorry, but I just don't like the noise in your signals. Most critical are of course TPS and MAP which should get their reference GND driectly at the ECU. tomiata : Is that how you wired them, or are you grounding them somewhere in the engine bay? They need a dedicated GND wire coming directly from t...

Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21

Unfortunately the stock ECU doesn't have a connection for a potentiometer style TPS. Stock '90 Miata is a simple switch. I'll measure my '99 Miata ECU which has a resistive TPS. EDIT: Just measured it- resistance from TPS pin to GND is 11kOhm. Resistance to +5V is 6kOhm. Any idea how we get to the i...

Good points/ questions. I assumed that, just like with my NB1 and NB2 Miatas, the TPS is 5V referenced. Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21

Alright - I ran your AFRs through a DB to analyze and we're looking pretty good! Your VE table seems to be close. The error shown is in percent. A negative number means you're running too rich, a positive number means you're too lean. Don't pay too much attention to the cells with a low record count...

Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21

That's looking pretty good! I have to apologize for the advise to lower your EL_Fuel threshold. It looks like you're real close to signal-noise level with your threshold (3), so we get a lot of enrichment where we shouldn't. Please increase it back to 6. Also: I don't understand why you sometimes ge...

Are the subframes and control arms usable? NB front subframe has been improved over the NA version. Gives you more caster and lowered mounting points for the lower control arms afaik. Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21

I just looked at the code and it seems straightforward enough so even I can mostly understand what it is doing. It calculates a delta (tpsTo - tpsFrom) and if that exceeds the threshold, we look up the value in the table (presumably using tpsTo and tpsFrom again) and that is your enrichment. One que...

Tuning accel enrichment is all about drive-ability and not really perfect AFRs. In a perfect world we'd have perfect AFRs under accel conditions, alas this is never going to happen. I'm asking because I can't find much accel-related problems in that log and no TPS-based acceleration h...

Re: Miata NA 1990, 1.6L stock #21

That's quite strange: Both logs show absolutely ZERO TPS fuel! And that even though in both logs you are clearly above the TPS-threshold of 3.0 in many places. Explanation: The values in the TPS-Table establish how much fuel is added per throttle movement. So when you start at 0% TPS and go to 10% T...

More data- Awesome! Looks like you need another row below 30kpa in your VE table. Some of your troubles stem from running in cells that are outside your VE table and are therefore not properly tuned. If you look at the logs, you often get very lean conditions when you're coasting under part- or 0-th...
