Re: Power supply - kb1gtt
I'm concerned that you will get a lot of common mode noise because of the amount of current switching on the ground side. The manufacturers recommendations are only a guide, they aren't application specific. Are you measuring in a vehicle with the engine running? have you measured the voltage drop b...

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt
I don't see any high-frequency decoupling on the 12V supply, it looks like the 12V only goes to the switcher.

Re: Frankenso - ECU shield compatible with OEM case
You need to start looking around the outputs for spikes and ringing, the smart FETs can cause a lot of noise because they switch very quickly and you can't change that like you can with a normal FET, you may be able to reduce any issues by adding snubber circuits. Edit: apparently the VNS14NV04 can ...

Re: How to compile the firmware
OK, thanks, I didn't realise that was an older version, I will install the latest version and try again.

Re: How to compile the firmware
I'm trying to install the Eclipse IDSE following these instructions: (edit by russian : please do not use this link to install anything for rusEfi) http://stm32discovery.nano-age.co.uk/open-source-development-with-the-stm32-discovery/setting-up-eclipse-for-stm32-discovery-development As usual with E...

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt
I've never had any luck trying to do this sort of test with a scope, usually they use FFT which isn't really suitable, the spectrum analyser will be much more useful, unfortunately its not something that I personally own. The automotive tests are ISO11452 and CISPR 25 which mandate the use of a LISN...

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt
I haven't had any time recently to look at this, I have started assembling my PCB though. You are only going to get a load dump with a battery disconnect, it won't happen through something trivial like a headlight bulb blowing, its almost always caused when a jump start is carried out and the leads ...

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt
The specs I've found indicate a surge once a minute for 10 minutes. That's the minimum requirement, most manufacturers spec that but the last ECU that I did was 100 repetitions - in reality the power dissipation stabilises long before you get to the end of that test. Active clamping should work but...

The amplifier was a commercial amp made by Crown and it is old and very heavy!

Re: Power supply - kb1gtt
ISO 7637-2 is obsolete and was replaced by ISO 16750-2 which was updated with the tests from 7637, the ISO specs are all subject to stringent copyright conditions but there are copies available on the net. I think that you need a version from 2010 onwards but the Vishay document is a good reference....

Re: My observations on Frankenso 0.4
I'll start with the PSU: http://www.rhinoman.org/rusefi/psu.jpg ISO16750-2 has two specs for load dump, pulse 5b which (from memory) is 45Vpk up to 450ms or pulse 5a which is 113V for up to 400ms. The source impedance is specified as 0.5 to 4 Ohms. The pulse 5a is an exponential rise and fall from t...

My observations on Frankenso 0.4
I'll begin this by stating that I don't want to sound over critical. This thread will detail my observations and recommendations which are based on a number of years of designing and type approving ECUs for OEM applications.

Re: Hello from the UK
OK thanks. I have had a look through the schematics now, I can see quite a few issues but I will start a separate thread with my suggestions/observations. I don't want to come across as over critical, however I do have a lot of experience with automotive design and I've been through the entire type ...

I thought that I recognised the name, is there any support for MAP based systems? The pin out matches which system, the US 96-99 ECUs?

Hello from the UK
Well I just stumbled upon this project and it has piqued my interest. I have ordered a Discovery board to experiment with and the bare board (0.4) for the rusEFI. I am an electronics designer with a number of years of experience designing electronics for engine management and after-treatment systems...
