In this case "as expected" would be in regard to the conventional ion sensor systems as used by SAAB etc. image.png Very similar to what we saw here with the SAAB system. https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/wiki/Saab-Trionic-8-Combustion-Detection-Module-on-Mazda-Miata-running-rusEFI The irri...

20V 1.8T Golf, p/n 4D0905351. One of these would be required in a wasted spark configuration, or two in sequential. Due to the nature of the twin spark design, I think two (or four) in sequential is best. Two vs four depends on answering Q1 from the OP. These are proven to work pretty well with the...

Re: Is stm32f4 the right chip?
You are correct, it requires investigation of a new chip and possible modification to an existing platform which requires human time and input. This is near exactly what was proposed previously and was met with immediate hostility. A new platform was never suggested. Regardless I will leave that the...

Re: On v12 banks
It is also worth noting that most cross ram engines with dual plenums up until about 2010 were actually running 2 ECUs. From the top of my head, the Ferrari stuff and BMW stuff was using 2x bosch controllers and the lambos used dual marelli ones. No need to balance your banks if you treat each one a...

Re: Ion Sense
So there's a couple of things here, your absolutely correct the spark discharge is a problem, the ion sense is essentially blind during the discharge which makes things difficult but not impossible. I don't want to give away too much detail at this stage but we have found a way to determine the tran...

We managed to get some pretty good pattern coils from Maxpeeding rods, they seem to be working as a factory outlet for a lot of stuff now.
Think they were ~£85 for 8.

Re: Ion Sense
oh wait, I have just figured out what they are doing....
They are smart coils, the trigger line is also the ion feedback line.
I am not sure how we would interface with that based on the way RE ignition drivers work, it might make sense for you to take a look at the mazda or SAAB coils instead.

Re: Ion Sense
@ssmith - There does not seem to be any IGBTs in the MSS60 ECU which as you say would suggest smart coils. 3 wire is weird as you need 3 for the smart coil and a 4th for the ion signal. So yeah, with you on that, not sure what is going on there. Documentation for the S65 also seems to be junk compar...

Something is really very badly wrong with your build as there is no way the voltage should be doing what you showing in the video.
I am sorry your kit may now be irrecoverable at this stage.
You may also have done permanent damage to you car by connecting it after we pointed out it is not ready.

Merged the three open topics into this one, please try to keep the discussion of this Frankenso to this topic. So the mazda coil has some electronics in it but getting them out did some damage, we think the mazda coil is self charging for the ~300v. Re: Custom board base on Proteus Software trouble
I believe there are pin compatible stm32 f429 vg that will allow you to use the official firmware.
It might be worth doing a chip swap.
Proteus is intended to work with the larger ram on the 429 VG chips due to the number of features on the proteus.

Re: Hellen128 / Burned Ignition driver mosfet
So this seems to be an issue of the IGBT drivers being on 100% due to the inverted setting. This will have surely cooked them and probably hot enough to melt that solder joint. It's possible they are now shorted to ground and causing issue elsewhere. First step is going to be removing those IGBTs an...

I read through this thread, and am starting to process some of the academic papers regarding ion sense. So forgive me if I'm asking obvious questions. BMW S85 (and presumably S65, but it looks like they moved the electronics into the ECU) use dumb coils, and have electronics that apply the bias vol...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?
Just in case you were not aware, the parts manual for the E32 750 lists all the engine bay plugs and they are not too expensive even direct from a dealer. The Small square 2 and 3 pin plugs are just AMP junior power timer plugs (as is the ECU plug) some use micro power timer pins. You may find that ...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?
The standard solution used on the M20 engines will serve you well here. That is to replace the distributor rotor with a trigger wheel/tooth and trigger a Hall sensor using that. Common OEM hall sensor is the M54 cam sensor, it looks identical to an OEM BMW crank sensor and uses the same type of plug...

The engine has the cam sensor in the distributor body yes?
