Re: A different approach.

Nice. Also as an FYI, have you seen the OLIMEXINO-STM32? It has several automotive friendly options, like the power regulator and CAN via screw terminal.

Congrats, and what's the next step?

Good to hear. I know there is a copy of Jon's work out there, which you appear to have found. However his official work can be found here https://code.google.com/p/mpc5xxx-engine-control/ I'd recommend studying that code. I understand russian is not a fan of how the memory is used in that approach. ...

Upon a quick look, I'd say it appears to be mostly there. I'll try to take a closer look. As noted there would be some need for software configuration changes. I don't see any real issues on a quick look.

Cool and welcome along. Jon is pro-using the o5e stuff, can I make a suggestion that you port the o5e code to chibios and make it run on an ARM? I'd like to see that happen, lots of work already done that can be reused.

On the IO board I already have a generic PGA the MAX9939 done in KICAD. I could trim it down to a proto board in a matter of minutes. I also have the MAX9926 VR circuit. Should I make this into a small proto board? Two channels of VR/HALL, one channel of generic PGA.

Re: Test car Ford Fiesta XR 2i 1990

OEM's can use far less protected IO as they have very strict control over the build process. This is why they don't need the protection over 5V and such, as they can guarantee that it will not exceed 5V by the MFG process. In the DIY world, it really sucks when you have one small brain fart and blow...

I tend to think a bit more in terms of crank angle, with a desire to hold .1 degrees of crank angle. I also tend to want to see one edge of fuel and spark events being synced with that .1 crank angle. So I tend to look for 9kRPM /60S/M = 150R/S --> 1/150R/S = 6.66mS/R. Then 6.66mS/R /3600deg/R = .00...

It takes several weeks to get the PCB. PCB PDF copy found here https://daecu.googlecode.com/svn/Hardware/trunk/MCU_pin_protect_PCB_1...

Yes I agree greatly with your comments. I once talked with a person who did thermal testing of PCB's for a living. He noted that 1206 sized parts typically had about a 50% failure rate in an industrial temperature cycle. Because of this talk, I try to use 0805 and smaller. I agree that high resistan...

Do you know a source for the OEM ECU PCB side of the connector? I think that's the same as what I made for russian . How would you replace the ECU? Are you chopping the harness up, removing and wiring direct, or using an ECU connector broken off a junk yard ECU or something like that. When you say M...

Those circuit don't look bad to me. The op-amp VR sensor isn't my preference, I know the MAX chip has a well proven history, and allows for both VR and hall. It looks like this chip can do the same, but might require some filtering and such in software. I'd stay with the MAX chip because I'm comfort...

I did the general design work and PCB layout, russian had a bunch of input along they way so it should work well for his test bench setup. OVP injector drivers will take about .5mS to decay. https://code.google.com/p/daecu/wiki/Injector_driver_theory The 150nS off time is negligible relative to the OVP decay of .5mS. The inductive energy is going to make the drivers hot. As noted in the wiki, it predicts how much heat it will need to d...

Also with some luck, you'll only dump say 2mA and the MCU will consume say 3mA. if that happens, then all is good. However if the transient dumps say 10mA, and the MCU only consumes 3mA, that's bad, but better than blowing a pin directly. No problems with learning as you go. I've been there and I'm ...

Diodes to 5V rail will only protect after the MCU IO pin has gone beyond 5V which means the MCU pin exceeds the ratings, so fail. The diode really does want to go to the MCU +V pin, your saving grace is that it shouldn't ever need to conduct. You are correct the MOSFET should prevent these issues fr...

I'd like to find better simulation tools, so I can better determine what is required. However I think this op-amp would work fine. http://octopart.com/mcp6001ut-i%2Fot-microchip-419097 at under $.25 each, it's not very expensive. I see it's input noise at 6nV then gain of 100 means an output of abou...
