Re: 1995 Ford E-150

The voltage to ground junction at R263 and C260 is affected by both TPS and IAT pots. TPS has the lesser effect.

I have Discovery disconnected. I'm powering the analog board and the simulator from my power supply. You did see my schematic of the simulator?

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

The weirdness continues. I have removed R250, R261 and R271. Out 5 responds to TPS pot Out 6 responds to IAT pot Out 7 does not respond to CLT pot. Voltage changes going into U202, nothing out. I fear I may have damaged that channel. Shall I pull R281 and try Input 8? Oh yes, the weirdness part. Out...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

I haven't pulled any resistors yet. I'm using the consol. I checked for voltage at PC2 and found none. So I started investigating. According to the schematic PC2 is connected to Out 11 which is connected to W211 PA0 is connected to Out 9 PA4 is connected to Out 5 I confirmed this by checking continu...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

I've got some weirdness happening here. The PIP input still seems to work OK but I get no response on the gauges when I try the IAT pot. I do get a response on the CLT gauge with the CLT pot. When I try the TPS pot it there is no response on the TPS gauge but it responds on the CLT gauge. The two se...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

If I'd had peg board laying around I probably would have used it, in order to keep with tradition.

I tried to reduce the size of the image with Gimp, but then it wouldn't accept the file extension. Was the file size any problem?

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

I assembled another simplified test bench for rusEFI. I use an old computer power supply so I have both regulated 12VDC and 5VDC available. I dusted off my old "Stimlator" so I have a PIP signal, CLT, IAT, TPS, and EGO. I also have 5V LEDs available to test INJ1, INJ2, Fuel Pump and SPOUT....

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

I'll have to agree with that. If there is no direct reference it should make any case against you harder. What a pile of crap! And, what a shame. The real shame is that I see this as severely limiting what we can do. I've gone on record as using designs, code and ideas of others, that have been publ...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

Understood, but it makes open hardware design almost impossible, because even if you conceive of a circuit yourself, and publish it as your own, free for anyone to use, if someone has published it before you, even without your knowledge, you are in violation of some obscure law. Same thing probably ...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

So tell me about MS patents. Their schematics are published on the internet, free for anybody to see. I'm almost certain that these circuits were not particularly designed by the MS team, but rather a compilation of many ideas. I don't see where the physical circuitry can be patented if it has been ...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

I suppose I was getting a bit ahead of myself. I was thinking along the lines of getting rusefi developed to the point where it could be a direct replacement for my MS. But that's OK. Baby steps first. I suspect that the reason MS and FreeEMS use on board Map sensors is because the sensors themselve...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

I pulled a couple of pads off the PCB for U201. I could populate another board, as I have two spares, but rather than do that I'd sooner limp along with what I have until I out grow it. It looks like Frankenstein incorporates this board for analog and input capture inputs. It also has lots of Low an...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

This might shed some light on the bias resistor.

http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mwire.htm#clt

Yes, it would be interesting to measure the resistance at a lower temperature than the Ford manual states. I'll see if I can do the freezer thing, but it might be a few days before I can.

Oh yes, it can drop to -10C sometimes, but not very often, thank goodness.

That information came from my Ford manual, here's the table that MS uses for the 8 bit ADC.

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

I have Java JRE6 on the XP machine which works fine for the version of Tuner Studio that I have. Do I absolutely need JRE7 for rusEFI?. I hesitate to change anything because I spent literally months modifying the TS .ini file to work with my modified MS and I don't want to lose that.

I'm curious as to why we have this difference between indicated and calculated RPM. Re: 1995 Ford E-150

Bench test on simulator only. When everything checks out on the bench then I'll try it on the engine. RPM appears to be off by a factor of 4. If the frequency is 52 hz there will be 52 x 60 = 3120 pulses per minute. At 3 pulses per revolution the RPM will be 3120 / 3 = 1040. It's hard to set an exac...

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

I had another look at the console while running and I noticed that it is reporting an "on time" of ~9.5 ms. At 50% duty cycle this relates to a period of ~19.7 ms, which relates to ~52 hz which is ~1052 RPM.

Looks like you're on the right track Andrey.

Voltages to ground:

R312 out = 4.33
R313 in = 4.31
R313 out = 4.31
R314 in = 3.736
R314 out = 1.866
W211 = 1.866

I'm game to try anything.

Re: 1995 Ford E-150

At this point we know that the analog board has been damaged, but we don't know exactly to what extent. Before proceeding to some sort of experiments perhaps it would be better to assess the damage. Is there some way we can do some simple tests to see what still works, if anything?
