Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

I am 100% not interested to add additional custom WBO CAN protocol into rusEFI. This is also absolutely not necessary, you can not support all WBOs in this world. Our WBO controller is also an open source product. My colleague started to develop it with someone else, but then he made it a close sou...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

Heinrich, which cars use that bosch hfm7 ? so i can go junkyard shopping for one.. thanks! I've no idea, sorry. But I have the Bosch nummber of this HFM7: 0 280 218 421 This sensor contains also a NTC, 2k @ 25°C. However, it is only a sensor that has the same air flow and physically the same size, ...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

But not with the stock Motronic. :) What do you have against MAF? They are great sensors that provide absolutely accurate air mass, regardless of ambient pressure and so on. :) The implementation with a HFM7 MAF is a joke. Measure the frequency and insert it into an equation and you have the absolut...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

@OrchardPerformance; Yes, all the plugs and pins are not expensive at all, that's true, and you can get almost everything directly from BMW. But I want to leave my original wiring harness untouched and just remove it. This has the advantage that I can go back if it should ever be necessary. I will a...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

so if you plan on using 3 or 4 outputs for the transmission control, then 3 of the proteus digital outputs would be routed to the transmission harness? Correct. The engine harness is connected to the car via three 20-pin connectors. The transmission control unit is connected to another harness. So ...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

"must" is a relative term. You are right, let us say "should" :) For proper transmission operation, it probably just requires TR and DKV from the ECU. I think so too. ABS should still work without anything, and will certainly work with TD at most. In principle, yes, but doesn't ...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

This sounds good, a Proteus as master and microRusEFI as slave / GPIO Externder, then we have more then enough GPIOs. I saw a video where you connected two microRusEFI via CAN and controlled two ETBs with one pedal sensor. I think we need something like that here. In the next days I would buy a Prot...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

Ahhh, okay, I see. I have overseen this setting. What is this assignment based on? On the firing order? Those are just ordinary cylinder numbers, not firing order position. My engine is numbered sequentially down the crank, so all the odd number cylinders are on the same bank, and use the same O2 s...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

You got it backwards on cyl bank the bank #1 is on the passenger side but the INTAKE for bank #1 you marked is on the opposite side the intake is a cross flow style intake for bank #1 is on drivers side spark plug for cyl #1 is on passenger side Absolutely correct, here is my text for this: Importa...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

Ahhh, okay, I see. I have overseen this setting. What is this assignment based on? On the firing order? The firing order on the M70 is 1-7-5-11-3-9-6-12-2-8-4-10, the cylinder order is as shown in the picture: grafik.png Important: The numbering on the picture is mirror-inverted! The left ETB is res...

Re: DIY Hall input board

What you see on Andrey's circuit is a so-called "voltage follower". The sensors are normally not able to supply current, they only supply level (0 or 1, with TTL 0v or 5v). This means that input from MCU / ECU must be very high impedance, otherwise the voltage will breakdown. An ideal OpAm...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

I like that very much! That means I can use waste spark at the beginning but wire the COPs individually. And later I install the camshaft sensor and configure it to full sequential without changing anything in the wiring. I would do the wiring for the camshaft sensor from the beginning but not inst...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

I believe that consensus on this forum is that full sequential is overrated. But firmware is flexible and any shape would work if you insist :) I've read that a few times too, on the Megasquirt forum. That's more like "while you're at it".... The standard solution used on the M20 engines ...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

This looks really good, but won't work for the M70. Directly under the ETBs are the valves of the crank case ventilation, there is no more room. On the M73 is the crankcase ventilation at the back. Here you can see it, more or less well: grafik.png I'd say I'll keep the stock ETBs for now and replac...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

This sounds pretty good and seems to be a real option! Do you have a number of the ETBs or what engine are they from? https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/wiki/HOWTO-M73-v12-on-Proteus says Nissan Hitachi SERA576-01 60mm throttle body recommended. In order to mount SERA576-01 you just need to drill ETB...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

So let's think out loud: * rusEFI requires two TPS signals because that's the proper way * rusEFI actually validates that calibrations do not match to make sure that those are in fact two different sources * your M70 is a genuine case of a single TPS OEM setup It looks like both of those worlds cou...

Re: BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

So where are we with the M70 project? Is the biggest challenge at the moment the throttle bodies? Yes, it seems to be so. On my M73 I know it was up to triple redundancy are you sure you have only single position sensor? https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/wiki/BMW-e38-750#eml Yes, I'm. The Motronic 1...

Welcome to rusEFI! Thanks a lot! Then I came up with rusEFI, by chance I saw a video on Youtube with a M73. Cool, I want to have that! The specs of the Proteus read like it was built exactly for the M70, a dream. Thanks a lot for that! Hah, I designed it to work with my V8, but threw in some extra ...

BMW M70 in 8 series with Proteus?

Hello all, my name is Heinrich, I'm 39 years old, I'm from Stuttgart and I've owned a 1991 BMW 850i for 15 years. At my old employer I was working with ECU calibration and ECU application for about 15 years. In my spare time I program microcontrollers (Atmega 8bit, NXP LPC13xx/LPC17xx and recently S...
