KICAD 3D

Post by kb1gtt »

Just FYI, there is progress on KICAD's export to step which can be used for other 3D program, like 3D printer programs.

A key problem, is that KICAD uses WRL files, and offers WINGS formats.

This script is simply inserting step files. You can generate the step files by
-- opening the 3D wings file, then
-- exporting a file which can then be opened in FreeCAD. Then
-- FreeCAD can convert to step.

Once you have the step files, sitting next to the wrl files it works well. Or at least it worked well for the one file I've processed so far. It's kind of labor intensive to setup, but once setup with proper 3D models, it's quite slick.
