Forum slowness & everything else forum status

Unfortunately there is an ongoing performance issue with this website. My troubleshooting points to database performance - static content works great, same does plain PHP - but as soon as the database gets involved things get unstable.

I am trying to get in touch with http://www.1and1.com/ - that's the hosting provider, but their phone system drops the calls as soon as I enter 1 - 3 - 1 in the menu @ 1-866-991-2631.

I will keep you posted. Apparently that's the $5.99/month quality, I will see if I can move to the "Performance" $14.99/month package with 2 GB RAM guaranteed if that would help the database.

Update #1: actually they say they are "aware" of the performance issues on "some" of their servers and they are "working" on it.

Looks like things are better today?

I've created a page with some status reports powered by http://monitor.us
http://rusefi.com/status/

About a week ago a bunch of sporadic "500 Internal Server Error" started to occur. 1and1 tech support claims that this website has hit their 'CGI limit' whatever they mean by that.

It's really strange how sudden the issue was - google analytic does not show any spike in popularity, but whatever. I was told to move from $5/month tariff to $10/month tariff, I am not sure if the move has actually happened yet - TBD.

What is worth noting is how much better phpbb (forum software) handles the crisis comparing with mediawiki (wiki software).

I am also trying to change some wiki parameters to enable caching etc, we will see how it goes.

(Knock on wood) looks much better now. My understanding is that media wiki file-based session management got stuck, this has consumed all my CPU/CGI quote which was affecting the forum.

Wiki seems to be fine, forum seems to be fine, monitoring report looks ok. Still need to decide if I will move hosting regardless or now, 1and1.com technical support is next to non-existent.

Good news I do not have the symptoms as described at http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/threat/encyclopedia/entry.aspx?Name=Trojan:Win32/Scar.O#tab-link-4

Bad news is that I have no idea where to take an official copy of Hyperdesktop_v1.0.3.9.exe - is seems to be abandoned :(

Just for the record: forum is still hosted at 1and1 but I really liked ehosts.com while looking for another service.

1and1 now includes an SSL certificate in my package so the forum and wiki are both https now.

the move to https has caused a few issues
1) video embedding on the wiki (I hope I've just fixed it now) - see https://rusefi.com//wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page
2) video embedding on the forum - does it work? anyone can show me a page with broken embedded youtube? This and above is about mising http and https content.
3) I have an annoying thing were I need to re-login to often - no idea what is this about

For me the login has been the same as it has been. I think there is a problem with logging in from two different chrome accounts. AKA if I login from work with different chrome, when I get home I pretty much have to login and after I again use the home account, it asks me for like 2 or 3 days each day to login. Then it seems to believe that I'm me and stops asking me who I am.

yep. have to relogin almost each time I want to reply or submit a post (but sometime ago I didn't have to)
videos look the same as in the past (first I have to wait for a phpbb video-plugin to load and only then watch the video)
what I personally don't like about it is that sometimes it is awfully slow when I am typing in the message.I might have written a sentence and have to wait for another several seconds for the browser to display it in the text field. I hadn't noticed such behavior in any other forums. Might be, some internal spell-checker?

This seems to have gotten fairly bad for me in the last couple days, perhaps a week or so. Is that the same for others, or is this just a me thing? I have to re-login every hour to two. It used to be once every day or two.

It's very often for me, too. My assumption is that this happened the day the forum was switched to https:// which was maybe 3 or 6 months ago. I've made an attempt to play with settings a couple months ago and have not touched since.

Forum was just migrated to version 3.2.2

One little thing is that 3.2.2 contains some fresh issues https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2453611 and also I now need to re-customize everything but I am hoping it would not be that bad.

I am tracking progress for this update at https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/issues/534 - will post here once the update is finished.

The migration is mostly over:
user tagging is re-implemented
topic colored text attributes restored
tapatalk plugin seems to be re-installed
youtube embedding kind of works (there is an issue with video tag stickig out here and there, that's for a later day)
also resolved http to https redirect which was making things weird https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=556&t=2454851

So, how are things now? Any issue reports?

How is our login issue?

After two days ago I realized that I should have edited the shortcut link to the forum from http to https, I am still loged in :-)

From the general ascetics, It seems everything is larger, more white space between things and you generally just can't get as much on the screen at the same time. I'm paying attention to login, will let you know it seems to be reacting.

So far it has been 24 hours and I have not had to re-login. I think I had to check that box to stay logged in, then I think it has kept me login for at least 24 hours now. So far so good. Yipee!.

email notifications are useless - plenty of links, without any actual content.
