Wont see crank trigger

Post by Mclain »

Hey All,

I finished pretty much everything to make a test run and started to work on figuring out the trigger offsett.
I was given some good instructions here on how to setup the Rusefi micro to work with my Hall sensor setup, and ive checked the signal with my scope and that worked. Didnt even look at trigger logs.

But now im trying to get it setup and i came to the conclusion that it doesnt see the hall sensor signal at all..
Here is clear view of my actual Signal (Channel B in Red) and the signal thats on the Test point (channel A blue).

Only difference is the pullup voltage. Sensor is 5V, and the "conditioned" signal is 3V.

Could it be that it wont work with the current type of sensor. This isnt your typical Hall sensor where the tooth size of both are equal. Could this be the issue?

Please link your tune. Please link your cranking attempt log.

Vehicle name is hidden in image name. As is this post needs a lot of context information.

If possible let's start calling this board by it's official name microrusefi. I am a troubled man, too much of those little inpresisions and I am very confused.

That scope shot looks fine to me. What does the trigger logger in TunerStudio show?

Ok, Microrusefi...

Like i said, no trigger at all. Can post an empty CSV file here, but thats not really going to help is it.

I did discover that when i enable the Cam Hall signal, i get something of a trigger log of the cam. But crank has nothing.
Ive added that trigger log and the tune its running at this point.

My wild guess would be that soldering error is more probable. Please post a pic of the hall/VR switch corner of the PCB.

I'm going over the pin setup, and i have no primairy input signal defined under full pinout 3/3.. Wonder how that happened and if that is my issue since the test pin has a good signal

Hi,

Had time to do some tests and indeed the primary input was set to none for some reason. Had to update the firmware of the MicroRusefi to get the console to work to do some engine sniffing.

But im afraid im running into an issue that i might need some assistance with.

The engine has a 60-2 trigger wheel on the crank and it has a camshaft hall sensor which i like to use in the future to enable seq. inj. But for now batch with wasted spark is fine to get it started and only rely on the crank if neccesary.

The highspeed logger now works and i can see the crank signal, The trigger error in the gauge display goes to Trigger ok in white. Not sure if it normally goes to trigger OK in green. It sees the cranking rpm without issue, but it will illuminate the Warning button and No injection.
So im not sure it there is something wrong with the trigger or that the issue resides somewhere else.

I have logged some stuff , uploaded my tune, checked my crank and cam signals with the scope and now im here. Im probably overlooking something or overthinking something. It gives me a warning, but cant really find out why its giving that warning. My last experience with Tunerstudio was ages ago with an MS2 and a simple VR 60-2 setup.
First lets start with the electical signals

This is what it looks like on the scop and pretty simular on the testpoints on the board.
As a result with the crank set to rising egde, the trigger logger captures this.

With cam enabled i see no difference in the trigger logger.
The engine sniffer looks like this.

With the lastest tune being this one

And a log i made yesterday (crank wasnt at rising egde then)

Like i said, i dont know if i need to see trigger OK in green, and that this is the cause of no injection, or something completely else. Any insight would be very much appreciated

is your crank hall or VR?

this is now simpler in latest firmware, let me make a new release and let's move your experiments to latest version of stuff

My project has everything stock on this 2 cyl twin air fiat, and they are both hall sensor.
The crank sensor is a bit of an odd signal as the teeth arent equal. This signal i normally see when its an start stop capable system

Wow today I've learned https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiat_TwinAir_engine
If you look into the multiair strategy, it gets even more serious. It can do amazing stuff with the valve lift including opening twice in a single lobe-action.
But in my case its not connected as we will let it run in full lift mode.

Only had 2 minutes to spare. I was able to update it, update the ECU definition. Pushed start only once, but saw No injection and No ignition in Yellow with a Red "Forbidden" sign on top of it.
Will look into it more tommorow and do some new logging.

Update..

I had some errors in the current tune and had no indication about the injection..
So i started a new project and began from there, and it now let me know it cut fuel because of overboost. Turns out this was set at 80kpa. Increased it and adjusted the trigger with a lamp to be exact on the money.. Now i have spark and injection there where it should.

But no start yet.... Put my hand on the collector with WOT and it really doenst suck allot of air.. Im starting to think the school for which this project is, got that engine for free for the reason that it has a fauly multiair unit and barely opens the inlet valves.

A well. I'll work a little bit more on it. One start is all it takes to normally free up the multiair unit.

Only thing i noticed was that i get a Tunerstudio error regarding the CRC when burning a full page. Push reset and its done. Not tuse what is the cause of that as i didnt have that before.
Will keep you posted in this topic

My documentation is wrong. Did a Compression check and i have almost nothing. Then i found this documentation and it says that the solenoids need to be at 100% for it to be on Full lift mode.

https://opensiuc.lib.siu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1035&context=auto_pres

Its a good guide on the system involved

Ive had a few minutes to test and i energized the solenoids of the Multiair unit. I can say that the injectors work as the valves where flooded and i ended up removing the spark plugs to clear the chambers.

Cleaned out everything and was ready to give it a go, powered the solenoid and a few seconds later the solenoid litteraly exploded.. Its either not designed to be energized constantly, or it was fauly. The Original control does show full engagement, but at a lower voltage, and only in the time frame of where the inlet valve operates.
So it might be some sort of peak and hold circuit and intermittently activated.. I might be able to put another trigger wheel on there and have that one energize the solenoids intermittently like original, but thats allot of work and ifs.

Will look into the option of opening the system up, and plugging solenoid of with the exeption of a little bleed hole/screw.
