trouble waking up Rusefimicro [resolved, soldering issue]

Post by Mclain »

Hi all,

Thanks for letting me join.
2 years ago i bought 2 rusefi micros to play around with. Got them, assembled the remaining bits, put in firmware and done..

Until this year i found a nice task for one of them, controlling a 2 cyl twin air engine on a test stand.

Did all the wiring needed to let it work (except for a redundant Accelerator Pedal). Made all the settings with it connected to USB, and then put it online. None of my outputs worked, sensors got no 5V at all and it was pretty much non operational, except for the Electronic Throttle body.
Tried the next day, and its totally dead on the test stand until ik plug in the USB. It wakes up, i hear the ETB start its typical Whine and its Run light is lid. Pull the USB and its dead again.

So i took it of the test stand and put 12v and ground on it on my bench. Dead as it can be. No lights, nothing. No3.3V or 5V..
Got 12V on pin 53 and 54. Key has 12V, but it remains in sleep as it seems.
Only voltage that is there is the 5Vstandby from the TL8888.

SO i thought i did something wrong with this one, and took the other controller. Same issue. Dead until USB is there. But then no Outputs or 5V.

I have no idea where i should start. It seems like the TL8888 wont wake up and start producing voltages. Could be that its dead.. But 2 boards with faulty onces? Unless there was a bad batch, i have no explanation.

Anyone who ever come across this issue?
Thanks

That's from when we were still selling "solder it yourself" kits right?

TLE8888 takes above average skill to solder any chance you could post some photos?

See https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/wiki/Hardware-microRusEFI-hardware-checks for some random expected voltage ranges.

Yes, this was the DIY kit. I will make a few pictures of the board today.

I did some voltage Checks and allot of them are not there because its missing the voltages that are made by the tle8888 and its 6v pre regulator. It really seems like it stays asleep even though the Key is high and thus should go from sleep state to at least power ramp up stage.

Iwill take the microscope with me today to see if maybe a pad hasnt flowed right, but never really had any issues with the paste i use and SMD stuff.

First of all check that you have +12 on Q1 MOSFET.
I suspect that you apply +12 to wrong connector pin.
Pin 1 & 5 - 12V, pin 2 - ground.
Next step is to check D36, D37.

Checked out everything under my microscope and it looked good.
So I packed my hook and started checking the pins. Found at least 3 pins on each that s Didnt flow correctly.

Corrected the issue and both wake-up.

Thank you for the follow-up, glad this is resolved.

And that's why we no longer sell kits
