No ETB to use for idle

Hey folks! I am relatively new to this community, so for a quick introduction to what I am up to:
- From: Saskatchewan, Canada
- Engine: Toyota 1NZ-FXE (Atkinson Cycle)
- Hardware: Proteus

I have the ETB responding relatively well to accelerator input. Now I am at the point where I would like to start chipping away at defining my idle. This engine setup does not have an IAC, and I believe it uses the ETB to govern idle state. Upon assigning the ETB to do so I receive an error:

Have you guys seen this before? I dug through some relevant topics on here but was unable to find a similar discussion. Apologies if this has been covered, and if so could you point me in the right direction?

Please upload your tune to https://rusefi.com/online

Without your complete tune we are blind

That error shows up if you try to use ETB for idle, but don't have an accelerator pedal configured (ie, no ETB possible).

Hey guys, thanks for the replies!

AndreyB:
I have uploaded my tune to the archive (2021-10-04 - canuck - Prius C - 1NZ-FXE - ). Note that my AFR is out of whack (currently waiting for a 14point7 solution to arrive) but the rest of it has seen varying degrees of response/success.

mck1117:
I have Throttle Position currently responding to a throttle pedal, so maybe there is a setting hiding somewhere that is tripping it up.. digging into this today!

I should also note that my tune does not have ETB enabled for throttle in that upload (error shows up when enabled). And I believe that may be why Throttle Position is reading 0 in the screenshot of my earlier post. It is usually reading 9% and responsive to pedal input.

says "use etb for idle: false"

So what is the question? if you want to use ETB for idle please set it to true?

Yes, in that tune it is set to false. The issue arises when I set it to true and after a power cycle I get the "No ETB to use for idle" error.

Below is what the dashboard looks like after setting "use etb for idle: true" and power cycling the Proteus.

It does not complain when I set it to true before the power cycle, only after.

That evokes very mixed feelings. Ideally we really want to reduce the guessing and provide _exact_ tune which is causing issues.

Well, that's vague in my opinion - I've just changed the message to "ETB idle does not work with unhappy accelerator pedal."

Next question is why would this pedal not be happy? Tune shows pedal settings.

Also worth noting 0707 software. Maybe worth bumping version hopefully this would not make things too much worse.

If that's July 2021 firmware, this behavior certainly hasn't changed since then.

https://rusefi.com/online/view.php?msq=664&dialog=pedalSensor rusEFI online dialog rendering was broken back on 07/07 due to a typo in rusEFI .ini file

Hey guys! Just wanted to give you a shout with an update on my idle issue. I bumped the firmware up to the September 'Iguana Awareness' build for the Proteus, and it is no longer complaining about 'No ETB found for idle'. Thanks for the support!
