Proteus .04 ETB Idle Settings/Issuestuner

Post by Cadence »

I am having a really tough time getting my car to idle in any consistent way. How do the following settings interact with the others? Should the below settings be changing the ETBtarget position at idle? It seems my ETB Target is always 6.87 even when moving these to extremes.

I can get the engine to idle at 1000-1100 and it will do so for as long as I do not touch the throttle. once the throttle is moved the idle will usually rise to 17-1800 rpm and sometimes it will drop back down. During all of this the idle Target ETB doesn't seem to change.

I assume that if I have manual idle set to true and have the open loop position set to 11% that the target etb position should move to 11% when in the idle range. Is this correct?

Always a please responding to your nicely articulated questions.

"Manual" means "open loop" I suspect I shall simply rename it right now, i.e. no attempts to hit any target.

"Automatic" would mean "closed loop" again I think I should go rename.

You are set for 12% of 0-100% virtual range where 100% is 15% of TPS. So 0.12*0.15 should be what ETB controller is trying to hit when pedal position is zero.

I can use your help here. Now knowing what you know, what other UI changes can you suggest to make all those dialogs more helpful?

Just pushed three changes:

* renamed automatic/manual to closed loop/open loop
* panel with settings related only to open loop is now disabled if closed loop mode is selected
* idle phase detection panel moved below open loop panel, also it's only enabled if closed loop is selected

snapshot version should have updated UI in about 20 minutes

I will check these out. Thank you so much for the clarification, and the changes. I’ll use this new knowledge and do some more testing.

It looks like most of your problem is a lazy electronic throttle:

(the green and red traces should track almost exactly: one is target position, the other is actual position)

I remember you recently changed the ETB PWM frequency. That probably means you need to re-run auto PID tuning for the throttle. Give that a shot and see if the ETB PID parameters change significantly (I suspect they will), and if that improves your idle control situation.

Awesome. I will try that tonight.

Thank you!
