Help Needed: Mercedes 190E M111 Swap (Hellen 128)

Post by WagemaWandimi »

Hi everyone :D

I am Joel from Melbourne, Australia.

I'm doing an M111 swap on a 190E, with a 6 speed manual SLK gearbox. I have also made a custom gear (short) shift linkage which I am very proud of

I am very new to all the electronic stuff so even though I am good with mechanical stuff, forgive me if I sound absolutely ignorant about the ECU and tuning etc.

Anyways, I have wired up all the components of the engine wiring harness. Now in the process of hooking up the USB (I have no idea how to do that)..so I have a few questions to which I could not find clear answers in the forum:

1) How have you guys hooked up your USB connection to the ECU? Do I have to open the ECU case or do I use the ECU plugs as per pinout? I've read conflicting things.

I will post further progress and any other challenges.

Thank you in advance for your help.

As of today you need to open case to access USB. We are working on calibration via CAN bus but it's not ready yet.

Push button is not required as long as your harness would crank starter without it.

I have made some progress since:

1) Did set up of ETB and Accelerator ✔
2) Corrected injector wiring to E1, E2, E3, E4 pins
3) Injectors & coils firing.
4) Set base timing to where 0 TDC coincides with timing light on the mark (with Static timing mode at zero degrees settings). Fuel turned off
5) tried to start the car after turning on fuel.

Here's a video of the action. Car almost started.

PS: Jimmy pointed out that my trigger type was set on 60/2 VW instead of 60/2 regular.

Here is a link of tune and log:

More progress made:

Got the engine to run (well barely) https://youtube.com/shorts/HA8OA5NRdTE?feature=share

My tune: https://rusefi.com/online/view.php?msq=1017

My Log: https://rusefi.com/online/view.php?log=812
I can't seem to get it to run right.

This is my first time tuning so obviously learning as I go. I could do with a few pointers.

2) Do I really need the K40 module with the relays and stuff, why not just use the stock 190E's relays and different voltage points?

3) Do I need to use the push to start (C40) feature if I can crank the starter using the stock ignition on the car? Or does the push to start only apply if I am using K40?

I will post further progress and any other challenges.

Thank you in advance for your help.
