work in progress 1970 Hemi Cuda with Gen 3 Hemi V8 engine
1970 Hemi Cuda with Gen 3 Hemi V8 engine
I just place my order for a rusefi ECU board.
I will play with it on my Gen 3 Hemi setup on our Engine Dyno:
I will install the engine with the rusefi ECU in my 1970 Hemi Cuda (drag car).
I will let the forum know about the progress of this project.
Thanks!

Hello and welcome.
Have you found the wiki? If not here's a link. http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Manual:Hardware_Frankenso_board
Sounds like a cool project. Have you penciled out a schematic for how your connecting it all together? If you have a schematic we can help make suggestions and such on how to wire it.

That's a sweet combo! Mopar for the win! The numbers posted look very healthy for an NA build.
I see COPs, port injection and single throttle body. All easily controlled.
What's your trigger setup?
Are you running WBO2 sensors? Exhaust gas temp sensors?

Re: 1970 Hemi Cuda with Gen 3 Hemi V8 engine
Due to v8 this would be the installation with highest number of outputs.
http://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=249 is currently the outputs add-on board with smallest physical size but the shape is not great for Frankenso prototyping area assuming vertical mounting. We can start with flat mount and ask @ for a new low-profile version of that board.
As for wheel sensors it would be http://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=994 hoefully we would not need to use http://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=749 to feed all these inputs into the firmware.

For igniters we only have single-chip http://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=286
Looks like better go with external igniters to begin with but I would be curious to see how these little ones would perform, let's plan this for one day later

Re: 1970 Hemi Cuda with Gen 3 Hemi V8 engine
Why the add-on board? I see 8 low side drivers for the injectors, and 8 hi/low drivers driving the COP's. I'm assuming the COP's have integrated igniters. I see that as frankenso native. Is there other IO that I don't know about? Was this a frankenso or Frankenstein board?

Re: 1970 Hemi Cuda with Gen 3 Hemi V8 engine
These are COPs but not smart COPs so we would have igniters externally to be begin with.
I assume we would run out of 12 Frankenso outputs pretty fast
1 fuel pump relay
2 main relay
3 radiator fan
4 idle valve
check engine light oooops

I got one engine with the 58-2 teeth trigger wheel and one engine with the 36 teeth wheel. One engine is stock with stock O2 sensors. The other engine is running a carburetor.stefanst wrote:That's a sweet combo! Mopar for the win! The numbers posted look very healthy for an NA build.

Since I'm running a race car, I can control the fuel pump relay with a switch. Same thing for the electric water pump and fans, I can put them on switches.russian wrote:These are COPs but not smart COPs so we would have igniters externally to be begin with.

I will need to control the IAC and the solenoid for my transmission air shifter.

I will modify the carburetor engine to EFI once I get some more $$$ to do it.monettes wrote:I got one engine with the 58-2 teeth trigger wheel and one engine with the 36 teeth wheel. Is that VR? Do you have a CAM sensor - I assume you must have one for individual injection & individual ignition?monettes wrote:I got one engine with the 58-2 teeth trigger wheel and one engine with the 36 teeth wheel.

Re: 1970 Hemi Cuda with Gen 3 Hemi V8 engine
Even if the fuel pump were not on a switch, it could be part of the main relay. Sounds like there is enough native IO.
Was this Frankenso?
Does it use an OEM harness of some sort, or are you doing the harness from scratch?
Do you mean a 60-2 that would have 58 teeth, at a 60 tooth spacing. A 60-2 wheel and 36-2 wheel are very common.

Sounds like a cool project and sounds like you have a good handle on it. If you need any help figuring out the wiring or anything like that feel free to ask.

By the way, here's a video of the Mopar car show I organise every year with dyno session demos.
I organise the show around the weekend of September 16-17 every year. It's a one day event.
If my car is ready, I will sure make a demo using the rusEcu with one of my 5.7 Hemi engine.
Everyone in this group is more than welcome to visit us!
Here's the video:

I have experience with this using Megasquirt. I will probably need some help on the tuning like the timing with the reluctor crank and cam wheel.kb1gtt wrote:Sounds like a cool project and sounds like you have a good handle on it. How often do you touch a v10 engine?

It's a 70s engine so I assume not stock cam trigger wheel? What is the name of that part you are using for cam?
Please note as is your board one input is set to VR another one to Hall - you say both are VR you would need to modify 2nd channel - remove one 1.5K resistor add one 0R resistor - http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Manual:Hardware:Frankenso:VR_input http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Manual:Hardware:Frankenso:Hall_input

Which year? I want to see how ECU plugs look like so that I can buy something similar to make a PnP adapter and show up with it one day.monettes wrote:I own a Viper

After doing more research, both the crank and cam sensors uses 3 wires, GND, +5V and crank/cam signal. I believe they both are Hall Sensors and not VR sensors.russian wrote:It's a 70s engine so I assume not stock cam trigger wheel? What is the name of that part you are using for cam?

Let me know what needs to be changed on the board to setup both to hall sensors. Thanks.

Re: 1970 Hemi Cuda with Gen 3 Hemi V8 engine
Same two links - you would need to remove a 0R and probably add a 1.5K into the next position. Look at the back of the board next to the MAX9925 chip (the tiny one below the middle of the connector) it would be pretty obvious what part is not symmetrical.monettes wrote:Let me know what needs to be changed on the board to setup both to hall sensors.
