Hello from Russia

Post by Diff »

Hello everybody!
Sorry for my English.
I am from Tver - small town not far from Moscow. I am a software engineer. But electronics and car modifications are my hobby.
My car is Lexus IS200 with 2JZ-GTE VVTi (from Toyota Aristo JZS161) swapped into. Now it works with stock Aristo's ECU.
I hope that using RusEFI, I will be able to start my 2JZ.
I would like to join the project. I have some skills in developing software for MCU (AVR, ARM7, TI C2000) and PC (Linux). I also have little skills in developing of small electronic devices with mixed signals.I hope that more experienced comrades will help me get on track and start to benefit.

Hello comrade :) we desperately need SW contributors.

You would need hardware I assume. Please do not design another board, please use existing board. At the moment microRusEfi and Frankenso are available assembled. MicroRusEfi is for 4 cylinders so it's a bad choice for you.

There are more than just three boards - see https://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware:Boards_Comparison

But at the moment only two are available assembled, all other boards you would have to solder yourself.

Frankenso is not the latest, but Frankenso is still very powerful and has prototyping area. And it could come with un-soldered connector if that would make things easier for you.

Did you say that VVT-i needs an H-bridge? Can you please provide more details maybe pictures/diagrams? You would need to write more code.

Did you say that one ETB needs two H-bridges? Can you please provide more details maybe pictures/diagrams? You would need to write more code.

Yes, I'm sure that VVT-i need H-bridge because of I myself checked the operability of the VVTi valve by applying voltage to it in the forward and reverse directions and saw how the piston inside it moves in opposite directions.

I'm not very sure about ETB. I will test it with oscilloscope when I pick up the car from repair.

ETB: M+, M- controls motor, CL+, CL- controls magnetic clutch
VVTi works on approximately the same principle (OCV+ and OCV-).

A lot of info I receive from http://wilbo666.pbworks.com/w/page/42173082/2JZ-GTE%20VVTi%20JZS161%20Aristo%20Engine%20Wiring

Is is a GND icon in top-left corner next to OCV-? Is OCV- wire grounded?

Yes, It is GND icon. But OCV- is connected to ground via resistor. Maybe vvt-i valve diagnostics is implemented this way. Current direction must be different in this circuit.
On the other hand stock ECU may form negative voltage on OCV+. IMHO it is equivalent to H-bridge, because valve coil is isolated from engine.
I'll also test this hypothesis.

I do not know enough about electricity to have a smart opinion on this :( Try rusEfi slack maybe.

Do you know the type(s) of your shaft position sensors - are those VR or Hall? I can adjust your Frankenso board accordingly.

I made some electrical measurements with the engine.
Here are the results:
1. Crankshaft and camshaft sensors oscilograms

2. OCV- (VVT-i control) is connected to GND
3. OCV+ oscilogram
OCV+ & IGT voltage

4. CL- (e-throttle clutch control) is connected to GND
5. CL+ oscilogram

Conclusions:
1. 2jzgte vvti uses 36-2 trigger
2. Only one H-bridge is necessary
