Hi Guys!
Im making this thread for my good pal Eli who is building an 87 535is that will be turbocharged running Proteus.
Specs:
M30b35, stock internals
Holset HX35
38mm wastegate
1000cc injectors
LS Coil on Plug
Mercedes Electric Throttle body and PPS.
methanol injection if needed
Starting out its going to be batch off the crank sensor (need info for which it is), Ill add a cps later.
Anyone with experience with the M30 or M20 please post your setup. Ill use that info to dial his in.
Oh and his ECU is the 35 pin.
Ill get some pics soon

thanks

So its going to be ECU first and running well, then turbo bits after.
The injectors for when N/A are

I need the dead times for these.
Parts my buddy needs to get still (and ill add the data in when he does)
MAP sensor
IAT
Using the BMW CTS (coolant)
thought about using the MAF but nah.
Also has a spare 60/2 crank wheel for trigger, but on the car right now it has the sensor...but the wheel has no cutouts?? It must have a crank sensor on the flywheel...weird that it has both.
my buddies name is Eli and he will be posting here too.

Sounds like this is an old pre-1.1 motronic.
They used flywheel sensors for CPS, forget about them and use that 60-2 wheel.

Sounds good. Weird that it has the sensor on the front crank pulley already? The gap was massive though and the pulley itself has no cutouts. Will swap to 60/2

got more sensors and part numbers today,
Also needing confirmation on this pinout:
VW Intake Air Temp Sensor: 0280130085 (Need sensor value settings)
VW MAP sensor: 0281002177 (Need sensor value settings)
BMW Electric Throttle Body: 13547556118-03 or A2C53112155 (Need sensor value settings)
Ill add pics in a bit

Thanks Jimmy for starting up the thread!
I'm looking forward to getting everything all set up this week
If I swapped over to the 60-2 wheel, aren't I going to need to also change the Cas sensor to that type as well?
My power goals, ultimately, will be roughly in the neighborhood of 600 in a different shell and refreshed longblock with a shrick cam. In this shell, I'd be happy with 400whp running what I got. Might take methanol to get there. I believe as long as I stay below 17psi, I shouldn't run into any issues with my piston rings (the stock ring gap is the only limiting factor between stock power and 600 boosted horsepower, before I then need to change out my pistons.)
I still have not verified yet whether or not I have a M30b35 or b34 but in either case I'm still sending it. I am pretty sure it's a b35 as this is a 87 535is chassis.
*edit* it's a M30b34, production date 11/1986 on my vin, so that would indicate M30b34. It's a lower compression than M30b35, so, better for boost.
Tomorrow, or the next day I am adjusting my valve lash and making sure I have a good platform to boost, most maintenance has been done already in recent times. Oil change also will be happening when I tap the oil pain for the turbo drain.
I think all I'm missing right now is just the turbo feed line, but that shouldn't be difficult.

From what I remember of the old system it uses one wheel with constant width teeth to detect RPM and one wheel with a single mark for tdc, suspect it is a hardware limitation of the really old units.
The E30 has both sensors on the crank.

99% correct pinouts for the older BMW ECUs.
Your looking at 35 pin motronic.

Edit - try this for the stock ECU, its M20 but 99% correct.

Jimmy, bro, you've been such a great help with all of this. It all seems much less overwhelming now.
My work today based off the spreadsheet he made.

there were actually 14 dme plug to Proteus connections to make, but I had broken a pin before this picture. Replaced it though.
