Hello,

A bit late response, once engine revolved ...... I took a day off.
rusEFI frankenso rev 0.4 is now revolving the engine at idle. Here is a 40sec video of the engine,

As i shared earlier, engine is not in the vehicle. My objective is sort of a test bench where different control/estimation or fault diagnosis algorithms can be applied to acquire the expoerimental results.

Trigger:
There are yet some issues to be addressed, although engine is now revolving but it is displaying the message "Trigger not happy" and showing rather high RPM level. If i take out spark plugs and crank the engine, trigger decoding works pretty fine. As soon as plugs are inserted and pressure builds in the cylinders, detected RPM level goes high. After first testing, I had to wire a couple of things (such as low lube oil pressre pressure lamp). Currently i am carrying out that part of work once its again on, I shall share dev console output in verbose mode. May be we can look into it to resolve the trigger decoding issue.

VR Sensors at Crank and Camshaft:
The engine is equipped with VR type crank and cam shaft position sensors. Frankenso came with w1002 and w1003 jumpers (zero ohm resistors). These two resistors were de-solded to configure for the VR type sensors. I have highlighted those both in schematics and the PCB.

Very nice bench setup! We love when people use rusEFI for engineering :)

Re: your trigger issue, there are potentially two separate issues mixed here

1) we are reporting false warning on cranking even on more known triggers see for instance https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/issues/669 - that's something I would love to improve but that's what it is at the moment.

2) your custom trigger might still have a very broken shape definition or decoding settings. I am happy to make the code changes if you can point me exactly at the issue in the code, but I cannot be much involved in troubleshooting the issue here. Maybe you shall give up and convert this car to 60/2 or something else working more reliably on rusEFI? Please use your judgement on where you want to apply your efforts.
Very limited telepathic abilities - please post logs & tunes where appropriate - http://rusefi.com/s/questions

Always looking for C/C++/Java/PHP developers! Please help us see https://rusefi.com/s/howtocontribute

Thanks,
rusEFI platform, once working, shall solve many of our issues regarding experimental validation and acquisition. Credit goes to the core team.

On the test bench, there is lot to be done yet. Packing the wires and labeling the connectors, and perhaps installing a new crankshaft position sensor as you recommended. Since the engine is supposed to run in a closed environment i think i can even install the trigger wheel either on fly-wheel or on the pulley driving the generator (with appropriate spacing). Am i right?

In local market here, the most common available tirgger wheel is 36-2. Can i plan to install this configuration? Does 36-2 runs smooth on rusEFI? Need your remarks.

I started the engine again and dev console output is as follows:

Code: Select all

My group has one more honda engine (i-Dsi, four cylinder inline), if i can share details of that engine (trigger types and others) here in the same thread for your remarks. Infact I am planning to develop a similar test bench also for that engine.

36-2 is a better supported wheel, that would make things just a bit easier!

I am working in both directions, troubleshooting and installing an additional crankshaft position sensor (36-2 trigger wheel with VR sensor). I shall hopefully post an update here.

Hello,

A bit late, but i stuck in searching 36/2 trigger wheel from local scrap house and then executing the modification. New trigger wheel is now installed on the engine. I have included images step-by-step and engine is now running without trigger error. So, eventually ..... trigger is no longer 'unhappy'. ;)

I opened the crankshaft main pulley bolt, wielded an appropriate sized shaft on the head. Any misalignment was then removed at lathe machine. Then installed 36/2 trigger wheel in the newly added shaft.

Sweet, glad to learn that you are unblocked.

Please consider fixing the original trigger one day :)

Thanks,

My objective is to prepare sort of 'test bench engine' for my research group, where we can test and validate different parameter estimaton and control algorithm (its yet a long way to go with many unanswered things, but its on the move). Next steps (please correct me if i am neglecting something) i am planning to do are:

1) prepare a final tune,
2) jump into code and be able to add algorihtm which any group member want to validate.

I think, while carrying out second step, i shall once again get back to the trigger problem. At that point i shall make an effort for 36_2_2_2 type trigger.
Remarks are welcomed regarding my future strategy.

Thanks again, the rusEFI community.
