Middle-aged EFI Noob. M-B 190E 2.3-16 to M111

Hey there! My name is Josh. I am a communications electronics tech by trade and have a pretty serious car hobby. Years ago I road raced a 1966 Dodge Dart. I recently picked up a track-prepared Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 that needs engine work. I've decided to sell the rare and expensive M102 2.3-16 and swap in the plentiful and cheap M111 Kompressor engine, but with a turbo. This is my first foray into aftermarket EFI. I am good at wiring and electronics, but never got into code so there are a few aspect of this where I'm sure to be asking questions.

Welcome!

Sounds like https://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2005 might be of interest. This should hit eBay in a couple of weeks.

If the Hellen 128 has connectors that mate with my engine harness I'm sold. I appreciate that the board has (can have?) drivers to use the existing ignition coils. I'm assuming the chassis-to-ECU connectors are available?

Chassis to ecu is up to how you want to do it. I have an 86 190e M111 and I got rid of all the old engine harness and such in the bay, took key on power and added a new relay/fuse box that is dedicated for the ECU, fuel pump, and fans.

The old engine harness and support electronics are going to be sold with the M102 2.3-16. I hope to pay for the M111, Hellen ECU and most of the rest of the swap parts that way. I will be visiting a Y2K C230 in a local wrecking yard to see about ECU-to-body wiring, but if it's too bulky or ugly I'll probably just get connectors and pigtails to go your route.

What did you do for PPS?

Josh can you please check supercharger clutch solenoid resistance?

that's about https://github.com/rusefi/hellen128merc-issues/issues/10

Jimmy says about 3.4 ohms

I'm sorry, but my engine was bought without the supercharger so I don't have a clutch coil to measure.

Would it be acceptable for your setup to have a (not-OEM custom) relay between rusEFI and supercharger solenoid?

Alternative option is an ugly-looking MOSFET bodged to the board where it does not properly belong.

I will be back in US on September 3rd and get your board as ready as it could be. At the moment you board is missing clutch driving IGBT and that's holding it from being shipped. Actually let me DM Matt about something...

I don't think he plans to run a supercharger.

FWIW we all know that in the open source world lots of people will bodge the boards but IMO you, the manufacture, shouldn't be one of them:)

All ECU need relays so there is no shame in telling someone they need a relay. For my setup the AEM HW I use requires 7 external relays as well as giving the ECU control of 3 relays in the factory panel that I repurposed, so 10 total plus and external h-bridge (because the 2 internal ones can't be run in parallel and at 5A can't move 12 TBs alone . The mainstream ECU companies just say, "here are the outputs, some application may require a relay" and that goes all the way to a $5k motec that they then say you need their $3k external power controler...a CAN controlled external relay setup.

Correct, no supercharger on my M111 to 190E swap. It is an M111.975 Kompressor engine, but I bought it without the blower. I mentioned not having the blower in my EBay message. There I wrote: "The kompressor will not be used."

I'm excited to do this swap. I need to get busy in the garage to have the mechanical part ready. I also need to figure out how to get an oil cooler on the M111 as this is a road racing car.
