core8: Hello Form UK/Lithuania! Custom 8CH ECU, Opel Manta(SAAB b234), m113 v8 5.0 twin turbo, EVO 5 builds

Post by opelpanfan »

Hi everyone.

My name is Ben.

Started being interested in ECU's about 3 years ago, and build my first custom ECU in bout 2019. Since then went through about 20 iterations and ended up with rusEFI compatible ECU master board and some adapters.

Master Board Spec:

50mmx 95mm in size, 4 layers

STM32F407ZG
24 Low side channels through VNDL5090
12 High side channels through TC4424 (5v or 12v solder jumper selectable per 2ch)
14 Analogue inputs with the option to switch 2.49k pull up
8 Digital inputs
4VR Inputs
2 Lambda (14point7 free)
2 CAN bus
1 LIN bus
1 Serial
2 stepper/DBW outputs
SD card
RTC and Battery
2 sensor +5v regulators
SPI FLASH (W25Q16)

Ecu has been used in my dad's Opel Manta running Saab B234 engine, Evo 5 turbo, 630cc injectors, 2.75 downpipe.
Made decent 275BHP and 460Nm but unfortunately blown stock old head gasket on the dyno.

Nice stuff!

What do you call this board? What are your plans for it? I believe there is also a bike using that board?

What EDA have you used? Are you planning to use open source the hardware?

1. I just call it core8.
2. Plan it to use in all my project cars, also my tuner installed 4 of these Ecu's in some of his client's cars.
3. Yes one Aprilia Capanord runs this ECU but currently using another FW.
4. Yes it is easyEDa project.
5. I do have published v2.3 of this ECU on easyEda.
6. My EasyEda account is https://oshwlab.com/b.brazdziunas

Wow that's the most interesting part of all this! Where is your tuner located / do you have a name or URL for him? We desperately need tuners who are comfortable with rusEFI.

Would be great if you guys could give back in form of a couple cool youtube videos. Spreading the word of rusEFI is the are where we need most help. Can you upload any of the successful tunes to rusEFI online? Are you using official binaries or custom anything? What's you plan to stay up to date with firmware? Are you considering a PR with your board configuration at any point?

My tuner based in Lithuania, his name is Andy, he's been tuning cars for many years.
He's very new to rusEFI but definitely going to use it all future projects.

We will post some videos on youtube showing how rusefi runs on our cars but unfortunately don't have any decent videos just quick shots that stuff working :)

Unfortunately, most of the install went with street tuning so no dyno printouts and my Manta blew up the head gasket on dyne before we managed to print any stats.

I use the Master branch and pull stuff every day, have core8 board config scripts and they all look ok and build FW, ini and other supporting files ok.

Will push PR for board config files shortly.

Ben do you see core8 as assembled module? Someone from Italy has reached out to me about a module for older Fiats

I know I'm in rusEFI forum but in releases builds I can't see any bundle for core8. This is why I ask. What are the bundle name for this core?

No release has happened since we added it, so it's snapshot-only for the time being.

Considering this dialogue, means that rusefi hardware could use other software?
And vice versa, what other boards could run rusefi? All the STM32Fxxx?

Of course, there's not much stopping you from running different software on any hardware. It's just like installing Linux on your Windows PC :)

Not all STM32. It will likely work with some varying amount of effort on most STM32F4, F7, and H7 with at least ~192k of RAM and 1MB of flash. It runs with near zero effort on any STM32F4x5/4x7, F42x, F76x, and H743 with at least 1MB of flash memory.

Ok, but does anyone has already "officially" supported any rusefi board?

Looking forward to see rusefi becoming Linux of standalone ECUs

Not to my knowledge, no. Not much reason to. The one caveat is that we're very "software defined", with little reliance on timer hardware in particular. So if some other software required things like injector/ignition pins to have hardware timers behind them, that wouldn't work since we didn't design any of our boards with that constraint in mind.

I did send a test unit to Italy. They are planning to run old Fiat 500 EFI conventions. As understood they have been looking for a cheaper solution to they conversion kit. Currently, they use MS in the kits.
