Introducing my 1JZGTE VVTI swapped is300 project

Post by 92blacktt »

Greetings,

I took an interest into RusEFI after purchasing my 1jzgte vvti swapped is300. It was misfiring when I first bought it and unsure why. After going through the usual suspects (couldn't get much information out of the unknowing owner), I discovered the likely issue is that it was running the original IS300 Auto trans which requires the original is300 ecu. The harness was from the original engine, as well as ecu and trans. There was a Greedy Emanage piggyback with a wideband and map sensor. The wiring was a mess and rather then trying to get the greedy setup to work I decided RusEFI was a good choice moving forward. There is hesitation and misfiring after the car is driven after a while so I think what is happening is the OEM ECU is changing the timing after its warmed up and learned and the emanage is not able to get the right timing and/or fuel injected. If I reset the ecu (unplug the battery and let her sit) it runs fine for a while.

So I bought a "Core 48" from a member on this forum.

Attached is a picture of the wiring mess. I am new to ECUs and tuning, but am an engineer by background and keen to learn.

My plan is to do a parallel setup and leave the IS300 ecu to control DBW, AC, Trans and have the Rusefi control the vvti solenoid, ignition, fuel, boost, etc.

I tracked down some pinouts for the 2001 IS300 (it is different to the 02-05 models), the Greedy Emanage and have the manuals for the CORE48 here:

https://github.com/opelpanfan/OPF_ECU/tree/core48_20

Also found this useful, from ECU Masters, its for wiring ECU Masters in parallel with IS300 ecu:

The core 48 is setup for VR sensors (which I believe is the 1jz cam sensors). My 1jz has a 36-2 crank tooth. It uses an ignition module which does waste fire (not smart plugs) and high impedance injectors. I think I can get all of this to work with the core48.

I still don't quite understand tunerstudio or how to set up my gauges, where to get a base map and all that but will learn! I hope I can at least make a diagram of the wiring, get some help reviewing it, rewire the car, load a base map and be able to drive it somewhat reliably.

Cheers,
