Frankenso 92 Miata

Post by Robert »

Received some new hardware for my planned Frankenso project today. A “Honda” OBD2A to OBD1 extension harness that is available many places online and at many price points. This harness has appropriate 26, 16 and 22 pin connectors in it. I plan to depin the red connector and use something else... half the work already done for me and I can splice into these wires without worry of damaging my original harness.

More new hardware for my planned Frankenso project: A Denso ECU from a 1990 Toyota Camry with a V6 and Automatic was had for $10 with free shipping. I can’t beat that price pulling one locally myself so... comparison to a Mazda B61P ECU (48 pins and original to my ‘92) reveals a case that is a little thicker with the same mounting holes and a 64 pin connector. I will gut this and use it as the case for my project

I did not know about these adapter harnesses. Thanks for posting the link. Looks like your making some good progress.

It was $14.02/free shipping. I have some 26p and 22p pigtails I cut in a junkyard that I could strip and crimp pins onto. I really just wanted to see the construction details of the mass produced adapters. Everything on that one is crimped, no solder joints. The tool I use to depin harnesses and connectors was about $6. So, much cheaper than the stripper and crimping tools I use to build stuff. Plus the cost of wire and connectors... Frankenso looks PNP for my application but the availability of these adapters might be attractive to someone who has a vehicle that needs to be wired for it

That's the same harness adapter I was looking at for mine just a few weeks back. In the end I went for a set of plugs from a Toyota hilux as the wires were colour coded instead of all black.

Definitely a good choice for a quick and easy set of plugs. What is the quality like?

My note about this case is "89661-32590 is a taller case. Kind of an option - only one mounting hole aligns perfectly but couple of holes could be massaged to work." https://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Manual:Hardware_Frankenso_board#Case_compatibility

One day I will document which holes would need to be a englarged which way to make Frankenso fit this case better. Can you post some images of the board and mounting hardware?

will edit post for context/clarity at later time. Used Gimars rule and cell phone with poor lighting. May revisit this with an actual camera and better lighting in future. What measurements do you want to see?
