In light of the plans for world domination we shall make a breakout board for 88 pin ECU connector.

We have https://github.com/rusefi/kicad-libraries/blob/master/rusefi_lib.pretty/BOSCH-88pin.kicad_mod by @Snake____1

Norway going strong!

I broke paths while pushing three lib files into library. Also just asked @Snake____1 to make silkscreen double-sided, other than that this looks ready to me?!

My v12 test engine has a working transmission which uses probably this 88 pin connector. Suddenly I have an application for this breakout board myself :)

Ordered breakout board & used 0260002428 BMW TCU as connector donor.

I also ordered break out boards. I will be making a new adapter harness that is cleaner than my current one. i will also be making a proteus adapter so i can eventually swap to that ecu.

I have several BMW 175 DME to harvest connectors.

The 175 dme uses a different pin out on the dme board. I tried cutting the pins short because they do have the same layout as the breakout board. However I still could not get all of them to seat into the board. I ended up making a small jumper harness. I wanted to use the board for ease of troubleshooting and changing/adding pins.

Our PCB breakout is for terminals in 3 rows while this used connector has 2 rows on PCB side. We had similar drama with 55 pin connector.

yes. i have several 175 dme and grabbed a transmission controller with 88 pins off ebay for $15 they all have the same two row layout. If you look at the back of the connector where the pins come out the layout is the same as the adapter board. Once they make that 90* turn, all bets are off. if you are able to cut the pins without bending a single one you may be able to coax them into the board. but i tried on 3 different connectors and was unable to.

This has become of interest to me, since I am now the proud owner of a '95 325i. The ECU is made by Bosch and has 88 pins. So this breakout board seems to fit the bill.

Is my understanding, that there are no easy/cheap donors for connectors available ,correct?

Pictured above 1996 BMW 318i 0260002428 TCM $13.59 shipped. Please be the judge of that price point.

I've also got a few brand new connectors like that in the mail yesterday and brand new from China matches the BMW TCU.

Our board does not match the connector. Our board has a simple 3 row footprint. Both used and new connector uses a funny 2.5 row footprint on the PCB side.

Since you are now a motivated BMW enthusiast I will ship you one of these new connectors tomorrow, it would be simpler to measure the brand new one.

Do we have a datasheet for the China connector?
If not, scanning the PCB from the TCU may be the way to go.

This was at first try with a new connector. Takes a bit of patience.
