I uninstalled the driver.

Now, when I plug the MRE into my computer, while holding down the program button,

" STM32 BOOTLOADER " appears in my device manager with a error flag.

So I attempt to update the driver, I point the updater to the "Drivers" folder in the latest bundle
( 20200608_24719), Windows fails to install drivers, says it cant find them.

Then I point it to all the Sub folders in the "drivers" folder, I get the same error message about not finding the drivers.

I then tried all the above with a previous MRE batch release ( 20200516_153131 )

with the same results.
Tried both amd64 and x86 in the ST-LINK_USB_V2_1Driver folder
and the
Win7 and Win8 files in the Virtual comport driver folder
(I'm guessing this is the wrong driver as the virtual com port is working fine when its not put into DFU mode ? The DFU isn't working because I don't have the driver )

Or do I need to look elsewhere for the driver?
Seems my laptop doesnt like the drivers provided.

FIXED IT!

I un-installed the driver again, and this time I pointed windows to this folder for the driver :

C:\Program Files (x86)\STMicroelectronics\Software\DfuSe v3.0.6

Obviously I had to install DfuSe v3.0.6

I got that from here :

Now the console seems to work perfectly and will update the firmware in auto or manual mode

Quick question before I solder on the TLE8888 chip.

Do I need to put some thermal compound on the thermal pad?

My first board, in my excitement to get it put together and see some blinking LEDs, I just whacked it on and then realized that there was no way to solder to the pad..

So on the new board I was considering putting some thermal compound down.

don't think it's a good idea. usually you need a hot air station for that job.

No, you need to solder the thermal pad. Soldering the pad is required for proper operation of the chip.

I was afraid of that. The bottom layer under the thermal pad, is covered by solder mask, so i am assuming that hot air or an oven is recommended?

I need to buy some solder paste....
