At first I thought the issue is about the KiCad migration drama but this does not seem to the issue here - Frankenso 0.4 was migrated to Kicad 4.0, I've just downloaded https://svn.code.sf.net/p/rusefi/code/trunk/hardware/rusefi_hardware_history/frankenso_rev00.40/frankenso_rev00.40.zip and I was able to open both schematics and PCB using KiCad 4.0.2 on Windows. Which tool fails for you - schematics or PCB?

Do you have a Windows box you can try this on by any chance? Not sure if paths could be messed up on Linux, just a random idea.

Kicad 4.0 libs are blah. They get downloaded separately from a git hub repo. I've been tempted to go back to the older KICAD, this new KICAD is blah compared to what it used to be.

What do you get for a KICAD version when you do help --> about?

I'm on 4.0.1 stable. Perhaps your lib did not point to the proper location. This is how it looks in my library manager.

I did not download anything separately, just default windows installer kicad and out .zip file which has our libs in it.

2nd screenshot title bar shows original poster version.

Ubuntu 14.4.1 may or may not be KICAD 4.0.1.

I think that the missing components have to be stored after modification in the wrong directory.
I will only show one footprint rusefi_lib folder. if I make a new component and its fooprintin so it works properly.

I can not test right now Kikad Win machine, but maybe later ..

I really encourage you to try KiCad on Windows - I've recently re-installed my environment on parts of my laptop pool and Frankenso opens smoothly.

I have a rasberri pi 3 I might be able to try this if I know the version and distribution.

Also help about for the version number might offer some insight. We are guessing you are on V4.1.

I tried this XP machine and I got the same error message. whether fankenson started design using an old version of
kicad which is later upgraded to newer kicad later version.

Have you installed any additional libraries which are not part of the standard installation?

No, I am using standard out of the box kicad 4.0.1, now downloading latest just to be sure.

Do you want to PM me a https://www.join.me screen sharing session?

Please confirm that you have rusefi_lib folder next to your frankenso folder, the way these are compressed into frankenso_rev00.40.zip?

Right now I can not use the screen-sharing because it does not work under Linux. rusefi_lib can be found as it should.
What happens if you make a new, empty project and add a BATT_CR2032_MPD component and something else such as SM0805. Does it work properly?

Looks like TeamViewer can be used on Linux and Windows. That might work. Also Join.Me is bit less mature product, even on Windows I've seen it have some odd issues.

If you can tell me your kicad version I can try and see if it's a problem with that version.

I installed kicad and libraries again, but the sound is the same. TeamViewer also works now. The version information is displayed in the picture.

I have installed 4.0.2, and it opens OK for me.

I think I see the problem. If from eschema I try to launch CvPcb, I get the screen you note. It would have been helpful if you had provided a more detailed description of the steps you took to get this error message. To launch CvPcb you would click this icon in eschema.

I do not have a use for CvPcb, so I do not know why it complains. Is there a reason you need CvPcb? I enter the footprint information in eschema, which prevents the need for CvPcb. I understand CvPcb is mostly an older attempt to make KICAD more graphical friendly. As well it's not really usesful these days, that's why it's not in the "KiCad Manager" any more. They appear to be attempting to hid that button as most people don't use it.

Can you open the layout with out issue? You open the layout by clicking this icon in the "KiCad manager" window.

The error comes just after CvPcb button. Kicad the manager to open the layout without any errors.
I think that the error is due to different ways of using the program. I link normally all footprints via CvPcb as it can specify a multiple components at the same time. it is also easy to check whether all correct.

I haven't used the CvPcb for much for some years. If you create the CvPcb file I'd be happy to include it in the official release. I do not plan to create this link file.

Cvpcb is the only user interface footprint selection. Data is stored in the same place shema (****.sch) file.
The safest way to fix the problem is to change the old version of the components of the current version via component properties.
After this also cvpcb is working properly.
