I'm not sure if this log will help with communication stability, but it dropped several times when viewing the settings.

Nope, you board has +12 going to that.

Correction - PC4, not PC14

Ok, so I just received the A4988 stepper driver. The IACV that is in this car is A2639 which appears to be identical to the one in this video:

My question - Based on the orientation of the IACV in the video, which wire went to what on the A4988, and which wire went to what from the A4988 to rusEfi board? I'm looking for "stupid" output like:

Example to A4988:
Stepper => A4988
TOP (farthest from camera)
1 => 2B
2 => 1B
3 => ...
4 => ...
BOTTOM (closest to camera)

Example to rusEfi
A4988 => rusEfi
MS1 => PE10 (or something like that)
MS2 => ??

Also, I have received the DSO203 oscilloscope so we can get the "actual" triggers and other waves that are necessary to hopefully get a more accurate tune. Also I would need assistance on hooking the oscilloscope up as I've never used one before.

Ok, so the most frustrating/unfortunate thing just happened... While adjusting fuel ratios manually to achieve max RPM (6500-7000), I accidentally hit 8k+ RPMs and spun a bearing. Many may ask - How was this an accident? Well all the other times I had to "full throttle" to get it to 3000. This time, it jumped up to 8k, I released throttle but it held for almost 3 seconds, then the really bad noise of "squeel" followed by tick, tick, tick and oil coming out between the head and block. So, not a full blown "thrown rod" yet, but it's out of commission until it's rebuilt. It still starts, still revs, but I'm not doing anything more as far as running it till it's done.

However, I would like to finish wiring in the devices and doing whatever else is needing done that can be done without starting the engine.

Also, I would like to thank everyone for their help and quick replies to assisting me in getting this running.

Ok, so here's what I have...

Getting ready for the tear-down I recalled that I heard the same squeal when I was getting ready to turn the engine over again. I tracked it down to my fuel pump. The fuel pump was going out and causing a squealing noise. So I figured - it's not that bad. I replaced the fuel pump. Took me a full day to get the car to actually start again (different fuel pressure going to injectors I would assume). After getting the car going, there was no knocking noise. I got it to temp and still no knock. Now, I'm assuming it was a spark knock from "lean mixture"? The oil still seeps between the head and block, so I need to re-torque the head bolts.

Other than that, the car runs decent - without a correct tune.

I have posted my trigger from the oscilloscope, so if anyone has any input on it for the correct trigger settings, that would be helpful. Also, I'm getting "trigger noise" according to the computer when it's turning over before starting. How can I resolve this?

Can you post your "currenttune.msq" file?

The oscilloscope screenshot is just not precise enough to be helpful - for trigger recording rusEfi logs while trigger logging is enabled are the most useful.

Too mach life in the way today and tomorrow, I should be more helpful later this week.

Sorry for my delay - been a bit tied up. So, here's the file requested:

[The extension msq has been deactivated and can no longer be displayed.]

Also, I was changing some settings and in the middle of a burn TunerStudio disconnected. The ECM will no longer function. It lights up but the LCD is blank. I closed everything out, disconnected the ECM from power and USB. I then connected the ECM to both USB cables (no vehicle power), ran the ruseficonsole program => Erase Chip. Then when the output was done, I disconnected everything and waited. Then reconnected USB cables and ran Program Firmware/Debug. When it was done, I disconnected everything again and waited. After about 30sec, I attempted to power on via vehicle - same output, no LCD display, no fuel pump kickon, but lights still flashed.

Thoughts on this? This has happened one other time, but when doing the above steps it resolved itself and TunerStudio re-burned my last configuration back onto it (it keeps it in memory - kinda nice).

We both know how vague these statements are :)

Let's check if you brain board works as described at http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware:Troubleshooting

Yes, your right. That was a little "vague" haha.
Ok, following the instructions it is now functioning (yes vague again...). Thank you for the assistance.
So, I've changed the fuel calculations back to speed density.

There's a couple things I've noticed that you may be able to resolve/shed light on:

When calibrating TPS, the settings appear to be "backwards". When doing "Closed throttle ADC count [hi number] (throttle to the floor)" and "Full throttle ADC count [lo number] (no throttle)" it works, but when doing it the way I would assume it reads then it's full throttle when its in the up (neutral) position, but 0% when on the floor. See below picture - it appears to work this way but errors when saving "Min is greater than Max, are you sure you want to use these values?"

My Fuel/Air ratio is "all over the place" much like a noisy trigger (while cranking). I've calibrated it (0v=0.68; 10AFR, 5v=1.36; 20AFR) via the documentation from the 14point7 website (PDF provided below).

Any advice/input would be awesome to get the noisy trigger and noisy AFR resolved.

TPS - known issue, Created: 2015-05-15 - https://sourceforge.net/p/rusefi/tickets/199/ - life is in the way of fixing

Let me think about the trigger noise later today, as for AFR that could be easier to fix: just added some sensor troubleshooting to the bottom of http://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Hardware:Troubleshooting

Well, I've got the noisy trigger figured out (for the most part) - it was a bad/horrible connection (not ready to cut the pickup wires I used vampire taps - it's now cut, soldered, and shrink-tube sealed in the distributor). It still "jumps" around occasionally when cranking, but only when it tries to fire too early and makes the engine bounce back.

Now, the o2 sensor is still sporadic, and there are no bad connections that I know of. As for the connections, It's a direct plug from the o2 sensor to the controller, then the controller directly into the breakout box with proper crimped ends (used a ratchet crimper). There are options for Lambda delay that I can change, but that's under "Tune Analyze Live => Advanced Settings => Lambda Delay" not under any other part of the system (that I can find).

Also, for the o2 heater, what would be the recommended pin for that?

And final question - referring to my previous post:

Let's reiterate the o2 sensor. Is it a narrow band or wide hand? At the moment we only use wideband with an external controller so no heater.

There is a chance that the information is lost about how the iac was wired on the video but I will double check. I do not have stepper idle on my vehicles so this is still not documented properly.

The o2 sensor I purchased was this one:
kb1gtt wrote:WO2's come in different variations, most common are LSU 4.2's and LSU 4.8's. I'm sure OEM's use different variants, or perhaps they meet one of the LSU specs. If you don't get the a controller that matches your WO2, it probably won't work well. Best to get a controller that specifies the type of LSU it supports, LSU 4.8 is slightly better than 4. 2, so I would mildly encourage LSU 4.8. This Canadian fellow at 14point7 has a $75 controller installed in the wire, which simplifies the wiring. Beware, he's kind of a pain as you commonly have to poke him to get him to ship product, but from what I've seen it's physically a good design.

http://www.14point7.com/products/spartan-lambda-controller-2
I purchased it with the LSU 4.9 wideband o2 sensor directly from the website.

so you have a wideband sensor and a wideband controller. This case the heater wire from the sensor goes to the wideband controller and the only wire which goes to rusEfi is the analog signal wire. Gnd and controller power is wired outside of rusEfi.

My truck uses the same stepper, or one that's really close. You might find some bread crumb in that thread about IAC. If you can decode my semi cryptic notes, I think this is the snippet you are looking for.
-- A4988 1B --> harness side of W20 --> Frank pin 1T --> ECU harness A20 --> step 4
-- A4988 1A --> harness side of W19 --> Frank pin 1S --> ECU harness A19 --> step 1
-- A4988 2A --> harness side of W17 --> Frank pin 1Q--> ECU harness A10 --> step 2
-- A4988 2B --> harness side of W18 --> Frank pin 1R --> ECU harness A11 --> step 3
That's found here http://rusefi.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=864

Also if worst comes to worst, you're not going to hurt your stepper, you can try it, and if it doesn't move, change the wires. You should get it with in 16 tries :)

How's it going? It's been a while.

So, I've downloaded the newest firmware, however when trying to run the efi software, it gives me a Javascript exception, then closes. The older software still works. If I copy the two files "rusefi_console" application and executable jar file it opens and burns fine, but I am no longer able to connect to the ecu. If I use the old firmware, it's back to how it was (functioning but keeps randomly dropping the connection).

Ideas/Thoughts?

Thank you

isn't that what i was reporting?

Spine, is it the same with tuner studio? With the last week's firmware I was getting frequent connection drops on the console, and it worked flawlessly with tunerstudio.

Correct, since day 1 - I have had intermittant (random) connection drops on both tunerstudio and rusefi.

The new java version seems to have resolved the issue - the software now opens, in a few I'll go out and see if it can connect.
