Deucalion - son of Prometheus, also a compact ECU shield!

Post by andreika »

Hi there!

Let me introduce our new ECU board - Deucalion!

About Deucalion...

Deucalion is the son of Prometheus.
An innovative easy-to-build ECU shield on rusEFI firmware.
Caution! This is an experimental project at a very early development stage! More info to come...

Main ideas behind Deucalion:
  1. Only bare essentials on-board with as few components as possible
  2. Minimum soldering time should be required for board assembly (one-sided component layout!)
  3. Compatible with Bosch M7.9.7/ME7.8.8 ECU pinouts & connectors
  4. Simple 2 layer board less than 100x100 mm ($10 for 10 boards in china)
Main components:
  1. STM32-mini brain board as a main cpu ($11 on ebay)
  2. Kinetis MKE1xF as analog/trigger input software controller ($7)
  3. TLE6240GP for injector and low-side outputs, up to 16 total ($2 on aliexpress)
...And a couple of dozens of small components and basically that's all! Under $50 components total! As easy as apple pie :)

* * *

Features:
  • * 4 sequential ignition & injector outputs including built-in ignition drivers (and up to 6 outputs can be easily extended on the same board!)
    * 99.9% PnP compatible with Bosch M7.9.7, ME7.8.8, Yanvar7.2 (Январь7.2), Mikas10.3
    * 20 (!) configurable analog/digital inputs including 6 universal trigger inputs (for VR trigger sensors, Knock detection, Ion Sense etc.)
    * ...
All project documentation (including schematics & gerbers) will be available soon.
More photos and description will follow.
Stay tuned! 8-)

Thank you for your attention,
andreika.

Do I see dual connector footprint? A lot of ingenuity on this board!

No, of course not! It's a triple connector footprint! :lol:

So is that a JimStim2 :)

Great video, and great progress. Looks like it has come a long way.

[*] Kinetis MKE1xF as analog/trigger input software controller ($7)
What exactly makes MKE1xF special? What does S32K148 not have what MKE1xF has? https://www.nxp.com/docs/en/data-sheet/S32K-DS.pdf

HS-mode 168 MHz, which is preferable for realtime multichannel analog signal processing (trigger + knock/ion sense).

The idea behind KE1xF Kinetis in Deucalion is a combination of several features:
1) 5V-compatible inputs/outputs;
2) High-speed 168 MHz clock - so we have STM32F4-comparable performance guaranteed (most other 5V NXP chips have lesser freq);
3) 3x high-speed hardware analog comparators + 3x ADCs - very useful for software analog signal processing (level detectors etc.);
4) High drive output pins (~20mA) suitable for direct driving of logical COPs;

We now have https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/blob/master/firmware/config/boards/kinetis/!compile-kinetis.bat

Note the cool four channel TVS Diode Arrays DT1042-04SO SOT-26 about $0.45 each available on both Mouser and Digikey.

Note the cool tiny PCB jumpers between bottom huge connector and lower row of resistor arrays to configure pull-up / pull-down.

I likes the diodes array.

I also read this as Delicious. I also think yum when I read it.

I've seen a video on youtube, tell us more!

Also, let's clarify that stm32 is now what, optional?! And Kinetis alone is capable of running limited? not limited? rusEfi?

Yes, some progress has been made! :roll: You're right, this board config does have some specifics:
1) Currently it runs rusEFI entirely in Kinetis, without any STM32. There are only 2 chips on this board: Kinetis and TLE6240, and as we see here, that's enough to run an engine!
2) The rusEFI firmware config is somewhat limited: no FSIO, no ETB, no aux pid, no alternator control, no engine sniffer and limited Console support. But as for the rest of the features, it should be fully functional!
3) Currently we don't know the RPM limit of this configuration (only idle @1200 RPM has been tested so far), so we don't know if it's only for "limp mode" or a "1000 miles per hour" :oops:
