rusEFI Frankenso

Post by cktech »

Hello all. This is CK. I am new to this forum. I am looking to purchase rusEFI Frankenso standalone engine management system ECU set for miata mx-5 #333273429276 from Ebay.

My question is if this ecu when plugged into the factory wire harness start and run my Miata. I have a 91 Miata w/94 1.8L engine. Engine has Honda crb 600 carburetors instead of Fuel injection.

My son got the car like this Not running. Previous owner installed a hall effect distributor in it with a Crane Cams Fireball HI6DI2 multi spark ignition box, that he says was running. He cut up the wire harness and ran the car off toggle switches like a race car. Went to the junk yard and replaced the whole wire harness front to rear. I will replace distributor with factory Camshaft Sensor and coil packs. Keep carbs on with regulated stock fuel pump. Will the car start and run just by plugging in. How do I tune through ecu with laptop? Have never done that before. Thanks ahead for your replies.

Hello and welcome!

Un-mangling what someone has mangled is no fun. With too many wires cut too many weird things could have happened - ECU could be the least of your problems, you would need to make sure things are reliable and chasing loose bad connections would kill you.

Are you sure it's worth it for you?

https://rusefi.com/wiki/index.php?title=Manual:Hardware_Frankenso_board has all the details to wire Frankenso to any Miata but you would need to be comfortable reading these schematics.

Sounds like quite a project. I fear it's not as easy as you might think. You likely have lots of wiring trouble shooting ahead of you. If you replace the harness, can you get it running on an OEM ECU first? That would resolve many concerns and make sure you have things working properly. Once it's working properly, perhaps that's when you should consider swapping to rusEFI. I fear you may have an expectation that rusEFI will fix other issues. It would be best to fix other issues, then swap to rusEFI once you know you have a good starting point.
