Forester SF SOHC

Post by atntpt »

Hi guys so I'm struggling to have sync my setup consist in a Subaru Forester with a Proteus . I've done the wiring as mentioned here (https://blog.lazyschool.com/2019/05/forster-ecu-for-sohc-pinout.html?m=1) and everything seems to work ok , but the sync isn't reliable. It's wired between board and plug with shielded wire and it's a small 3" wiring between board and conector. Rpm jumps around during cranking. I've played with setting and resistors across vr and vr polarity.. o posted the same question on FB where you can see a video of it . As you can see below the simulated trigger is very similar to the one outputted by the sensor .

Are you sure that your trigger wheel is 36-2-2-2? I have an Ej20 SOHC from a Forester '02 in my Impreza and its using Subaru 6/7 trigger wheels.

Yes ! First pic is the actual sensor output and the 4th is a simulation and they look the same! My car have a strange ecu in the engine bay not the usual.. not much info about it but the link above shows the pinot..

Please try "use only front"=true

Tune uploaded, rising edge does not solve the problem

Please share engine sniffer images with rising edge. Please also try inverted rising edge.

I think you want
use only rising = true
and
invert = true

Because your signal does actually look correct:

Tested as suggested above, less jumpy but still jumps from 200is to 400is..

I am a weak human with my own mental triggers. Photos of laptop screens is on the the things which concern me a lot - I am drawing hopefully wrong conclusion that a person is not comfortable with technology. Considering that we have Windows 10 here with build in Snap Tool this is especially worrisome. I have very few objective arguments on what is a problem with photos so it's probably just my problem.

Can you please take a Trigger Logger while cranking and attach the Trigger Logger log file here?

Did you try to change the polarity of your VR when you set "use only rising edge" on true ?

Without a scope, it is complicated to know if your VR is well wired.
With a MAX (like proteus) your signal has to go up then down. (rising edge then falling edge, to be precise)

But with some OEM or old school conditioner, it is inverted.

Maybe I am wrong, but you have to set "use only rising edge" on "true" and "invert primary" on "false". (without additional resistor for your setup)

I just take a look to your rusefi online and you set the cranking ignition advance to 0 deg ! Is it, for controlling with a light ?

(and, are you sure about 6ms for dwell time ? It looks a lot to me, my COP can't handle so much, I can't start with more than 5ms, but can be fine for yours. I don't know. You can try 4 or 5, just in case)

I wouldn't worry about the jumpy rpm during cranking - this actually looks totally fine. You have a clean looking trigger signal and relatively stable RPM (save for that brief jump to double RPM - I think that's actually a bug, not a problem with your setup).

I'm writing from my phone that's why I take pics with.. sorry if it triggered you ahah , anyway, some update. I guess the trigger is stable at cranking RPM ( tooth log below ) but as soon as I try to start it rpm jumps around looks like double that the engine is running . Datalog of starting attempt also attached. Tomorrow will try to start it and save it on console . To understand what's happening .
