[info] Frankenso - ECU shield compatible with OEM case / official
Re: Frankenso - ECU shield compatible with OEM case / official
The $6 chip from Ali is a VG and looks real - it should be a goer -, but if you get the on-board STM32 working on the FK can you easily disable it and go back to the Discovery board.

Re: Frankenso - ECU shield compatible with OEM case / official
Hey guys, I bought the Frankeso kit from eBay and I got it in the mail a few days ago, and I think the kit came with a missing component? I'm talking about C103 on the back of the board, it's a 10uF capacitor. The biggest capacitor supplied in the kit is 1uF. Does anyone know anything about this?
Re: Frankenso - ECU shield compatible with OEM case / official
Sorry for the dumb question, what are the dimensions of this case?

Do not know exact dimensions. Board is about 160 by 160mm, case is about 175 by 175mm - ish?

I ordered my ECU connectors from mouser and Digikey (had to order from both because neither had everything needed for a full set) but you can easily get this from Ballenger motorsports.

Re: Frankenso - ECU shield compatible with OEM case / official
So just finished soldering a DIY kit for frankeso and maybe it would be nice to clearly state what addition components are needed to get it fully running:
I found out that if you order resistor and capacitor kit you still need a few bits like:
- to assemble all the analog inputs and all outputs i was missing the following:
-> 1K resistors (30 available in bom it is 45)
-> 0.1uF capacitors (20 available, i needed 25)
-> 2.2uF capacitor (3 pcs these are also not included) - used if you want STM on the board
-> 4.7 uF capacitors (also not included and needed)
If you need to assemble the kl30 voltage divider to measure it, if i remember correctly i did not had the correct resistors in the kit, but assembled it other values and adapted the coefficient, so that was a quick fix.
I know that it is intended to use it with STM32 dev kit, but in case you want to solder the stm on the board you are missing some vital parts like voltage regulator and usb protection ic.
I found out that 0804 components are a bit hard to solder since the footprint width are spot on and using just an iron you have to be careful o placing the components, i did used some 0603 resistors, those were easy to solder since pads were "big" for them.
5 Volts regulator footprint is a bit too small, a re soldered a few times till it was spot on and danger of shorting it to other test points.
Power regulator is a bit to "small" it is all gathered in a small area, and that makes it hard do solder (THD components are a nightmare as well like diodes and coils.... i would prefer SMD stuff).
At the end it is a "dev board like" i know, it has proto area, but in my point of view if we would loose all the LEDs on the HS and LS direvers it would free up a lot of space, so components would not be so close together and the PCB as well would not be over populated, maybe the stm part adapted as well not to be "discovery" footprint, but i think that is another chapter and another hw project maybe?
Anyhow after complete assembly I am happy with the board, it is very nice, i can compare it with the Frankenstein that i have also assembled and this is way better, and MRE ... now that is another chapter and more professional.
PS. i forgot, if you would like to assemble the board with STM on it, usb connectors that are supplied in the package if used, the housing should be drilled out to have access to the usb connector.

Let me respond with https://octopart.com/search?q=P-MUSB-K152-XX which I think means "unobtainium"SHOf429 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 12:01 amJust gonna drop this here...

Seems the part number in the datasheet doesn't quite match the product part number. My mistake for not verifying.

I went and ordered one of these just to see how it fits the board and case. I'll post pictures and details to gather opinion on whether this is a thing to be considered.SHOf429 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 1:11 amhttps://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Amphenol-Commercial-Products/MUSB-B151-34?qs=VZGfJwuufXb%2Fe4T3MvbasQ%3D%3D

After much delay, I see the panel mount USB port will require modifying the footprint and placement on the board.

Without Frankenso there would have been no rusEFI as it exists today.
On this warm Halloween day Frankenso design files were moved to https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi-hardware/tree/main/classic-designs just to emphasis the focus on newer https://github.com/rusefi/rusefi/wiki/Hardware
