Hi,
I'm Julien. I'm so interested by Rusefi.
I've ever use MSextra 3.4 on an MSII PCB 3.0 + Mapdaddy but I want to understand more about Rusefi.
To understand what I've done on an rallye car, please visit : http://associationhrt.free.fr/voitures.html
What I found great on yours projects are the cost of ST stm32 daughter board plus the open source motherboard Frank* but I want to create ou find a through-hole mounting motherboard for the simplicity of soldering and the maintenance of troubleshooting.
I have try very littles's project on Kicad and I've no idea on ECU PCB routing (number of layers autorised with through-hole mounting for this specified use on rallye's cars ; AMP connectors : footprinting with Kicad ; noises ans interferences with signals and functions on the PCB and external environement with PCB ...) + the enclosure ... etc ... so I don't really know if I'm able to create the motherboard that I want.
Is there some of you that can "tutore" me to make real a project like this one ?
Kind regards, Julien.

Hello and welcome along. Cool Rally car.
What is your goal of the thru hole?
On the wiki are several bits of information which are helpful in PCB design. See the below 2 links for some helpful information. Unfortunately I do not have time to tutor someone on PCB design. I can however occasionally offer some feedback if a design is published.

Hi kb1gtt,
My goal is the simplicity during soldering and the maintenance of troubleshooting.
In France all ECU saled for rallying's use are SMD's pcb like MOTEC, SKYNAM SYBELE, SODEMO EV11... More than 1000€ for the less expansive one witch is impossible to tune for specific uses...
So during my mechanical studies, I've found Megasquirt's ECU + 750GSXR ITB's. For me, it was cheap, easy to adapt to specific use with MSextra possibilities ; and it do perfect job in my rallye-car since 2008, without any issue.
That's why I want to try to design a 4 layers PCB in thru-hole like MS2 PCB 3.0 but with STM32's core daughter board.
May be that it's a dream but may be that it's realable.
Bye

Re: Newbee on Rusefi
i believe one of the arguments for SMD is the fact that modern stuff is SMD only while through hole is not developed for some time

I was thinking of converting a Frankenstein to THT so it's accessible for people in poor countries who can't get modern ICs, but I figured this project is not their demographic. Basically I thought the easier it is to make, the more people will join.
Before you go THT you might want to watch someone hand solder a SMD version. And if you have mech skill you can decide if you can do it.

If you want to THT it you have the SCH, you just have to find substitution parts and re-layout the PCB again. I would start with a Frankenstein because it's only 2 layer.
