Newbie from Japan/Australia

Post by Wombat »

Hi Everyone,

Just ordered my first uaEFI today, looking forward to it arriving soon.
I have been tuning ECUs in my project cars on and off for the last 20 years using Megasquirt and Speeduino.
I have been meaning to try out rusEFI for a long time and decided to get my feet wet with this platform that has DBW Throttle, onboard WBO2 etc.
I am a hardware person, an oil/gas rig electrician by trade and understand the basics of code, that being that I can read some code and say "yeah that makes sense", but thats about the extent of it.
I can and do work with Arduino, Raspberry pi Picos etc for very basic projects so there is that...
I have built many Megasquirts and Speeduinos in latter years (I got sick of those awful Megasquirt boards stubbon old B&G forced us to use, but Im still nostalgic for MS1-extra), Speeduino is a good basic platform for simple installs but the limitations of it and the amount of fake ATmega`s out there have pushed me towards STM, and I cant see the point in using Speeduino with STM CPUs when rusEFI is light years ahead.

I live my life between Australia and Japan and will be moving to our home permanently in Japan when it is ready, so looking to dive into some serious tuning and experiments with different engines when I purchase a workshop and hopefully a water brake engine dyno.
I am not sure of the presence rusEFI has in Japan but certainly keen to get it out there if things go well on my own cars.

Currently my vehicles are:

1988 JDM Honda Prelude turbo (formerly powered by the original B20A- NOT the CRV engine) now with a modern B series swap, I have owned this car since I was 21 and had it for 23 years in New Zealand before I shipped it back to Japan this used to rock MS1-extra with an LC1 WBO2 (what a POS that thing was with the earlier firmware) and Mitsubishi EV0 3 wasted spark coilpacks (things have really moved on since then)

1996 AUDM Honda Civic EK with an Mfactory 4.9 final drive ratio, LSD currently in Cairns Australia but will also be shipped to Japan this year due to the hostile nature of Police and society as a whole on modified cars here and the lack of race tracks where I live.

2020 Toyota Landcruiser Prado (not really applicable to this in any way)

Anyway, I look forward to seeing all of the extra features my new uaEFI will introduce me to and seeing what other projects are out there, no doubt I will learn alot.

Cheers,

Mike
