The Machine Shop Web Page.

This page contains a collection of work that Jared has done in the Machine shop. If you would like to see a picture a bit better you can click the picture and it will bring you to slightly larger image.

I made this 1.5 inch cube aluminum letter block my freshman year in the Mechanical Department. The letters were cut out with a small 3 axis CNC milling machine, and this kind of CNC work is considered to be a more complicated operation. It is common for the second year students to not do machining this complicated because it takes time and patience to complete.

This project shows my abilities in traditional CNC machining.

This is a project I made my second year as a mechanical student. In this project I pioneered the capabilities for VTC to do free form machining. This form was a sample form of a vacuum cleaner base. This piece demonstrated what the CNC mill could do with some better software.

This project shows my abilities in CNC form machining.

This is a plaque that I made with a CNC engraving machine during my work period at Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard. The top section is a piece of polished brass with 1/16 inch deep, paint filled engraved letters. The bottom section is a piece of plexiglass that is holding in a picture. The base board is made of stained knotless pine.

This project shows my abilities as an artistic machinist.

This is a scale model of the Mooroco, a 1984 VW Sirocco that was converted to electric by VTC's Alternative Energy Club. When I was a freshman mechanical student, I made this solid model of the vehicle. I used this as a base model for a vehicle I created called Mini Moo. Mini Moo was a 1/10 scale RC car model of the Mooroco.

This project shows my abilities with computers and solid modeling.

CNC Endmill

This is a small collection of pictures that represent machines in the shop that I am currently familiar with. I have used small engine lathes, turret lathes, CNC lathes, Horizontal mills, Vertical Mills, CNC mills, and other traditional machine shop equipment.
